Had 2 new tyres fit at the front yesterday because they were rather bald... so thought right ok will avoid points and a fine just rustle up £90 - by selling one of my subs :( - and got some new ones.

Drove to work today and my boss said "do you know the treads are different?" Turns out they've put me in another illegal situation, tyre treads on the same axel have to be the same. They're about to see sophie with an angry face when i go in there and give them a bollocking of their life!

Just to make sure, because i googled it, that is right isnt it? They have to be the same?!

right stop

tread patterns dont matters you can have a different patern on each wheels

although the sizes must be the same in the axle

for example you could have
195/45/r15 all round or
195/45/r15 on the front and 195/50/r15 etc

aslong as the wheel and tyres sizing matches on the axle its not a problem

Ah ok, so as long the tyre sizes are the same it's all good?!

tread patterns mean bot all tbh but you should always have to change them in twos being fwd they should wear evenly at the same time, if not then it indicates the tracking/balancing/camber is out or could even be a worn bearing etc

i usually change the back wheels with fronts about half way through there life, about 5000 miles, but all depends on how hard you push the car

but tbh id always buy the same type of tyres always change them in twos at least, basically the driven wheels ie rwd or fwd
