Right, i was on the motorway yesterday plodding along at 65 mph when my car starts making a horrific noise. Its hard to describe how it sounds really, best way i can put it is like metal rubbing/grinding on metal and it was really loud too.
It only happened when i was in 5th and doing 50mph+? i pulled off the motorway and as soon as i slowed it stopped maikng the noise, i did notice when i took it out earlier that when i put it in 5th now it doesnt feel like its actually going in as its that loose (it does still select the gear). All the other gears feel fine still and select ok.
downside is im looking at getting rid of it now as i got a new car at weekend, its just typical that something has gone wrong just as im looking to sell it.
do you think its time for a new gearbox?
