A girl crashed into my car whilst parked up at college, the door was dented, the pannel came off ( its a 2 tone vtr) plus paint work was damaged all up the driver side ,in the end of may.:n:( its drivable just doesnt look nice)
so the insurance got the garage to estimate the damage and i got told today that its a write off due to the value of the damage against the car value.

i love my car so bit angry and was wondering if anyone has been in the situation before and what mite happen next. is there any way i can keep the car and they pay 4 the damage?
its a Y reg, two tone vtr with only 65 000 miles on it most of it motorway. anyone have any idea how much it would be worth?

sorry its long. Thanks for your help just wnt to hear what i could be offered or what my options could be.:y:

I crashed my car last december and they said it was a write off, but when the assesor came round to look at the car, he asked me whether I wanted the car to be written off and for them to pay me out or for them just to repair the car. chose the repair. you could get a quote yourself and see if you can get it cheaper, that might work?

thanks, when the guy came he said it could be a write off depending on the cost of parts ect. its so anoying because she only has a scratch compared to me needing a new door arggg
i should be getting a call off the insurace or a letter to explain the options soon, i just dont want to get rid of it. i worked hard for that car!
did your insurance go up the following year even if it was not your fault?
thanks again :)

Hi mate.

When i crashed (or should i say got rammed into by an old tosser) my car was borderline writeoff. They told me they were going to repair it but i rung up and had a bit of an arguement on the phone with them and managed to get the point across i didn't want to be driving a bodged up saxo.

What i did was get them to write mine off then i bought the car off them for scrap value and broke it for parts. Earned alot off that and went and bought another saxo.

I know you love the car and all but wouldnt it be better to let them write it off and buy another one?

Or if you really love you car that much you could ring around some bodyshops yourself and see if you can get a decent price. Insurance companies only use approved garages though. So what you would have to do is get them to write it off, buy it back for scrap value, then send it to a bodyshop to get repaired and hope the cost of the repair isnt more than what the insurance company paid out. This would mean that you'd be driving a Cat D/C write off vehicle and possibly require a VIC check also. Also the vehicle value would be less when you come to sell as not many people want to buy crashed repaired cars (which they'll find out by a HPI check).

If i was you i'd just accept that its written off and buy another and fall in love with that one.

how much do they normally sell it back to you 4?
im still studying and have just over a grand to pay off on the loan 4 it so i need to make sure im not out of pocket but good point.
i just need to shop bout for a good bodyshop that aint 2 expensive, i got quoted 1300 - 1800 by a restoring and repair company i know well thats using new parts ect but its way 2 expensive.
Thanks :)

What have they told you the value of the vehicle is?

I paid £200 and £250 for two saxo vtr's at scrapvalue.

Scrap value is normally about 10% of vehicles value.

Try sorting a deal with a bodyshop.

Find out what the write off value the insurance have recommended i.e they won't repair it as the damage is more than 1200.

Then get a bodyshop to quote 1199 and you pay the difference cash. I did it that way and you also have the piece off mind in knowing that it was repaired by a proper bodyshop as opposed to the bodge jobs that corner cutting/cost slashing approved insurer ones use!

when it gets wrote off and they pay you out, buy the car back if its only a cat D just get the damage sorted your self and should be quids in, the ex girlfriends bro got offered 1038 and they would take the car way or 1000 and he could keep the car, spent 300 fixing it and was 700 quid up

tbh my insurance hasnt gone up that much at all which I was quite suprised at as the crash was my fault. I think it depends on your insurance company and how leniant they in these situations.
