Hi.. I have a cammed vts and the gearbox is whining and crunching quite a bit now so going to change it..i dont know wot box is on there but ive got a hunch its a vtr box coz its shite! Any advise on what gearbox to put in? I drive around town, on 'A' roads and motorways all quite often. VTS box?was temtped with westcoast box just because of 3rd 4th 5th being the same..Advise please :) 1st gearbox change so new to it..

If you mean the westcoast box has the same 3,4,5 as a VTS box then your wrong, it has the same 1st gear and thats it.
Personally id stick with a VTS box. After that the 1.4 box but you might find 3rd a bit long, 4,5 are ok for motorway though.

Lol usually am wrong, bit of a newbie to the saxo life! Ok mate thanks for the help..looking for a box that will be a bit nippier from 0-100 although i would miss top end speed! Currently does 145 on the clock would settle with going down to 130 if the top end gets limited differently with different boxes..excluding vts box obviously.

deffinetly stick with the vts box its the strongest of the saxo boxes or go for the pug 106 rallye box its a very good box

Yea ive heard that it will be much quicker with rallye gearbox in. Will the rallye box affect my top speed by a great deal? ive been told it can reduce it to like 110..but thats just what ive been told like i said im new 2 saxo's :A:

The rallye boxes will effect your stop speed dramatically, but what does stop speed matter, who actually goes as fast as they can in 5th? At most on public roads poeple realistically go 90max/ An s1 rallye bo is what you want for accelaration or an XSI box.

i have an xsi box which is awesome but not at motorway speeds. vts box is probably the best idea as its a good all rounder

the 1.6 rallye box not the 1.3 one hits top end at 120mph at 6050 revs which is fine for everday road use and improves the acceleration a lot more over the shitty saxo boxes lol...

You can fit an S1 (59/13 Crown-Pinion) box and just replace the 5th gear with a longer one. The 5th gear is in a separate casing so you don't have to even open the box to replace the 5th. This gives you a shorter box for acceleration from 0 to 100mph and then an economy 5th for comfortable highway driving. This was my gearbox setup before I converted my Saxo to a rallycar
