They aint easy to drive. I have driven rather a lot of quick cars and even I find a TVR tricky to drive.
Big jump to one from a saxo thats for sure, get some practise in while you can

my boss has got a TVR Tuscan. and he fucking loves it. you can hear it about 2 miles away. that car kicks out some serious noise and power.
if i could afford to insure one i would buy one.
As for handling... well... you dont buy a TVR for the handling... coz they will kill you if you push it too hard. they are notorious for tricky driving style. but thats just the sheer power.
imo, there isnt a better, faster car with more presence to pick up for under 10k.
go for it, you only live once, that once might not be too long if you DO buy one. but what a way to go!!

yeah i heard they aint good for handling but certainly wouldnt be booting it everywhere anyway am a pretty safe driver no speeding etc etc well not anymore anyway lol.
Dont know what it is really i just wouldnt mind a weekend car something that i can say fcuk me THATS my car lol.
as leeroybrown said it probably is a big jump from a vtr to a tvr but as i see it it doesnt matter if its a big jump its how you drive it. I had a quick shot of a friend of a friends 911 i thought it was amazing but if you take it easy and drive reasonable shouldnt be too much of a transition between them lol
thanks for the replys guys, gonna keep looking at pistonheads and autotrader see what comes up

I'd personally look at Griffiths, the chim is a good car, however the Griff is the one that'll appreciate in value if you buy a good one. An early J plate 4.3 would be awesome as they don't have catalitic converters.
They can actually be pretty reliable if all the glitches are worked out of them. I don't follow how they are expencive to run, the early ones are pretty basic, rover V8 based engine, sierra brakes, all fairly sensible.
Personally, with an 8-10k budget I'd sack the VTR off and get a Boxster as a daily driver though. Life's too short to have a weekend only car if you drive in the week too

Dopends on who's driving. I've seen a couple of 4.0 Chims on track and passed them easily. The reason is that the Saxo is a very easy car to drive at a decent pace, bung it in as quick as you dare and make sure you get on the power as quick as pos in the main. A TVR requires you to balance the car, use some throttle control etc.
Put it this way, Gary "Car PArk Hero" McTwat will be quicker in the Saxo, Jenson Button would be faster in the TVR

Thats if you TVR can do a lap without breaking down!

The old ones are more than solid enough after all the build issues have been taken out of them

Seriously? I think they got it pretty much bang on with the Griff. Had a proper, manly engine too, a V8, none of your straight 6 faggotry that you got from the Tuscan

Buts its Rover V8 in that aint it, hardly the most powerful engine you could get.
Look at those cheap alloys, they are only for sale in Halfords as they are that crap!

You can have that, the alloys on that one are shit, not sure they ever managed to get the wheels quite right, however aftermarket wheels could sort that. They are in the same fit as Fords so plenty of options.
Engine? Power? Alright, the 4.0 is a little gay and the 5.0 version still only produces about 290bhp I think, however, it's a V8. It makes an awesome sound and has enough shove at any area in the rev range. You have to admit, there's a certain magesty about a V8 which a straight 6 can't compete with.
The basic car, V8, light, RWD, no roof, is such a glorious but under used configuration

I'll give you that, one things that has always made me like TVR's is just the sound the things make.
Never known a car that pops and bangs as much as A TVR.
Its like a Alfa, will always break down and never work.
But for the 5 mins a year it does work, and everycomes together, just for those 5 mins.
Nothing else can compare to it

off for a tug lol, never been in one of these think its the only tvr ive not been in uncles tusken was this colour with them style alloys. real shame they arnt brittish anymore that was part of the thrill a true brittish sportscar. are tvr still going or did they go under and then come back again with the new russian owners????
my dads got a 4 litre chimaera, R reg I think. Fast as fuck, think its just under 5 seconds 0 - 60? hasnt had any problems with it in the few years he's had it. handles ok but wudnt ever take it out in the rain. I'd love 1 if I could afford 1, and I do hope to be able to afford a sagaris 1 day. Got to e 1 of the best cars u can get for under 40k?
