i have a mk1 vtr and i wanted to know what would be the best way to reach aprox 150bhp ? i want it reliable and not a bank breaker ? imajin if you had my car and it was completly stasndered were would you go as regard to reaching roughly 150bhp :y:
boost. cammed 16v engine would be much cheaper and more reliable though
As above. My first choice would be to add 8 more valves.
Cheapest option by far would be to add a 16v engine, 4-1 and all the usual breathing mods, some fast road cams and a remap. Should easily see around 150bhp and will be loads more reliable than boost.

Plenty of reasons.
Main one being, A smashed rear end.

cheaper option would be a 's' engine.
next cheapest would be forced induction.
if wanting to keep it n'a then cammed, itb, lightened bottom end and about twice as much work and money then spending on a 's' engine.
i got my engine for £250 and its a good runner on 65k, fitted it myself which was easy enough i just had to get oils, filters and plugs for a service, i put a new clutch on while it was in bit and i needed an induction hose. i spent a further £250 on those bits but it can be done cheaper (my induction hose for example was £70 because i wanted a silicon one...)
manifold and exhaust can be had from anywhere between £300 and a grand, cams around £300-350 i think and a remap around £300. this should see 150-160bhp
boosting the vtr will cost in the region of £2.5k

so i need a "s" engine i gess it has to be a mk1 ( make it easy and probly cheaper ?
breathing mods , mani, exaust cams and a remap ? should i remap my standered ecu or upgrade? what sort of toatal price and time would this take ???
and how much is it to fit an engin i gess someone on here would do a cheaper and better job than most gareges lol ? :y: thanks for all the help so far :y:
p.s will this acheive about 150bhp and be reliable?
get a mk1 engine from the same year as yours to minimise any complications, other years will fit but will have various problems.
people on here do the conversion for around £300 i think.

Getting an 8v engine to reach 150bhp will be more money, time and effort than its worth!
As said get a VTs lump.
imho if ur not looking at doing the work yourself, then the cheapest way will be to buy a car already at 150bhp! Especialy over starting with a standard car.
