View Full Version : Speakers acting as subs?

Today Ive wired up an amp to power the front speakers.
Ive done this through connecting the headunit to the amp via an RCA cable.
When I play the music, all the speakers are now picking up is the lower (bass) notes.
Anyone know what might be causing this?
Thanks

simple
the LPF on your amp is on
turn it off, or better still, if it has a HPF, put that as "on"

Silly question, but did you also wire the speakers to the amp, and not just the RCA cable

if that was the case no sound atall would come out the speakers...

Why? Surely there would be sound if they were still wired into the headunit? I aint no ICE expert so I'm not arguing!

RCA's connect to the amp
if theres nothing connecting the amp to the speakers
then hows the sound going to get there?

Just tried this mate and its still the same. The setting is either LPF or FULL.
Tried both and they both just produce loud base + very little other sound.
Ive gone through the HU settings and noticed it says SW1 settings and SW2 settings. I presume these may mean subwoofer settings? On here it lets you change it from 0 to 120 hz, which does alter the loudness of the base from the speakers, but its still all base no matter what number its set to.

Coaxial mate.
hmm..
cant see both tweeters blowing
on the back of your headunit, how many RCA terminals are there, there may be a dedicated subwoofer one, which you have plugged your RCA's into
if this is the case, the HU will most likley have a built in LPF

I was thinking more along the lines of the speakers still wired into the headunit and the OP thinking that the RCA "amps them up" so to speak? If that makes sends

i understand what you mean,
although that'll produce a true sound, as in full freqs as there arent any filters as such on most HU's

Yeh thats what I thought when I posted it, but thought maybe the RCA or the Amp is interfering in some sort of way. Ill shut up now :drink:

RCA would only send a signal to the amp, nothing more ;)

Just two terminals, the red and the white. I previously had my sub connected to the same ports and it worked fine.
I think the problems probably something to do with the HU but Ive played around with all the setttings and still no luck.

im almost certain its the output controlled by your headunit! sounds like the rca out's are set to low pass only and needs changing on the HU!
if its a pioneer unit, turn ignition on, puch source until it goes off and then push and hold the jog dial button for 2 seconds to access the menu for setting the rca's from low pass to full range!
its either that or the filters on your amp are buggered or the switch from low pass to fullrange is broken...

I didn't read you comment
But yea this is the problem, by default it is set to sub, but you can set it to a RCA front or somthing along those lines
Great headunit, but one one RCA output. Meaning its either sub or speakers:boxing:
