NS CV boot clip popped off and sprayed grease everywhere..

Tragically (suspiciously) the day after I had new disk and pads fitted..:fcuk:

Have got it cleaned up and have had a new boot fitted..

What should I do regards the disc and pads ?

Compared to the new disc on the other side there are some brown scorch marks on the sirface of the disc on the side that shed the grease.

Should I take the pads out and replace them of just get some brake cleaner and spray it all over and then pressure jet it off ?

Brakes seem to work OK..

Or will it just wear off eventually ?

Probably drove for a day or so before I noticed that the boot had slipped off

i would just get brake/clutch cleaner on a rag, and keep wiping it mate,

then it should be fine,

im a HGV mechanic, and always get grease everywere, but i always make sure i wipe the disc as the last job, and wipe the pads just before i put them in, as when you get a new disc, it comes with oil on anyway to stop it from rusting,
so its always best to wipe them

I would fully degrease the disc and replace the pads.
And try not to jetwash near that boot it can take the clip off as i found out!

Cheers for the advice guys, I'll change em at the weekend.

The garage that out the new boot on for me didn't do a brilliant job cleaning everything..mind you I was calling round trying to get someone to do it same day..local Pug dealer said they'd fit me in..fifty quid..needed it doing quickly to get to work, didn't want to drive it anywhere much with the boot slipping off when I turned.

if brake cleaner dosent take the marks/ grease of mate then use a wire wheel/ brush to clean them up while using brake cleaner

take the pads out and brake cleaner etc and then get a bit of roug sandpaper and just rough them up a bit and put them back in will be fine

OK, I got the wheel off, took the pads out, got some brake cleaner spray, gave the discs a liberal spray all over.

Cleaned all the grease off of the edges of the pads and then gave them a liberal spraying as well.

Then wiped it all dry.

Popped it all back together.

Two things..on the top slide there is only one spring clip pin or whatever it is in the inside hole nearest the engine..should there be one on the outside as well ?

And after a quick spin down the road with a bit of energetic braking I can smell the same scorching smell when I get back on the drive that I could smell just after the new pads were fitted and just before the CV boot clip went AWOL again following a bit of hard test braking.

Do the new pads give off any kind of scorching type smell for a short while ?

Probably done a couple of hundred miles on the new pads thus far.

we don't mess around with brakes, if grease or oil gets on them we replace the lot.

To be honest...when you think about it...what's £20 for another set of pads..

I got the ones out easy enough today..

What's the score with the little pin/clip though..should I have one on both end of the slide ?

I think I'll get another set of pads soon as..

Had it happen to me about 2 weeks ago mate

had to take caliper off and degrease it all down properly, used megs degreaser, engine degreaser and a pressure washer, took me a good hours to get it all off

used brake cleaner last and made sure every bit was off, probablies best to do it once then drive a week and then do it again
