Hammerite Paint on Plastic?

I've got some leftover Hammerite Smooth Yellow paint over from doing my brake calipers and was wondering if it would be possible to use it on the interior? I.e the heater grills, main console and speaker grills? Or is it the wrong type of paint?

Is it a spray paint or a tin of paint?
If its a tin i wouldnt advise it as the finish would be poor.

It's a spray. I've tested it on a few bits of plastic and it seems to be coming up alright, maybe with a coat of clear laquer (which I happen to have :p) it should look good.

don;t laquer it after mate i did and it messes the paint up, the paint contains laquer anyway

Ah right thanks, I won't laquer it then. Just put the first coat on, waiting for it to dry before sanding her down and rinsing and repeating about 4/5 times. Good times :p

I've been spraying them for about 3 hours now and they are pretty much done. Only problem i've had is there is one or two pin prick sized bubbles which I popped and they have left tiny black holes in the paint :(

the little pin holes in the paint are signs of grease or cleaning products. also did you apply plastic primer? If not its all going to flake off.

hammerite was developed for metal, not plastic

spray over the paint is thick enough to cover them up i reackon

I just sprayed over the tiny holes a few times nad now all the surfaces are totally smooth. Just leaving it to dry on the table now before whacking it all in tomorrow :)

Well it didn't go too well. The paint dried and it all looked fine, until I tried to put it all back in. My stereo wouldnt go back in so I got stressed and punched it and took a chunk out the paint.

Ah harshhhh, sand down that part and do a little spray over it. As i would of said before you did it dont use hamerite. I would of used a rattle can from halfords of your chosen colour.

and maybe some plastic primer to make sure it properly bonds onto the plastic

It's moderately visible but there are a few, never been so angry in all my life haha :wall: It doesnt look bad and you wouldnt notice it unless you stared.

Yeah I i'll be re-spraying it all with proper paint next time. Will be doing it white, not yellow, after putting in the blue LEDs behind the dash and center console.

Pissed off isn't the word mate, if I hadn't put the screwdriver down i've of actually started stabbing the dash. Took me about 3 hours to fully recover and stop gritting my teeth. :panic:

it'll be fucking impossible to remove the stuff, its well thick and no way would come off easy. t cut works on it but would take months. no way u can repair damage and just respray over?

I was thinking along the lines of leaving it in a bath of white spirit, paint remover or some thing?

Yeah i'd be able to repair the damage I suppose, would just require a lot of sanding.

i knew this was going to happen. watch what you use to strip t back as paint strippers can melt plastic..............as i found out lol

Haha, I didn't think it'd go amazingly smooth either. Thought I may as well give it a blast as I had the paint leftover. Learnt from my mistakes though :)

Is that wink for 'dont actually do this as it'll wreck your dash' or do it as it works well? :p
