Na it's fucked.

Panels are odd colours, nothing lines up, welded up panels which have been hacked up. Death trap to be honest.

really why

Quick
11th July 2009, 20:11
Engine has the 90bhp throttle body, with 98bhp airfilter, 3 plug ecu (as fitted to 98bhp)
Dipstick in 90bhp place
Lamda sensor at side (90bhp engine) as opposed to on top for 98bhp engine.

Looks like the engine has been replaced with an earlier one at some point.

looks like its had an engine changed to an early one but put the origanal phase 2 air box on

the engine is border phase1/phase2 it the one they used in a 99/2000

where your pointing to is where the old plug leads connected, but as its using the management which was made for the car originally it uses a coil pack instead.

hope this helps

I was wondering how many people would be staring at the pics, wondering what they were missing.

Could also imagine him running for his log book and comparing his vin number. :P

As I said above its had a different engine fitted, might be worth checking whats on the V5 with the engine number.

m1 mani and downpipe

Mr_P
11th July 2009, 20:44
Apart from as said though,

Has a 90bhp silvertop engine with a 98bhp ecu. So looks like the original engine was replaced using the existing loom.

Don't hold me to that though, I'm not clued up with the vtr engine differences.

Thats definatley a mk1 silvertop engine with a mk2 airbox, manifold and downpipe, also dont think its been lowered at all as it still looks to be on stilts?

must be the angle of the pics, mines 40mm all round and looks lower for some reason

LeeM
11th July 2009, 21:37
the engine has a number on it i think, which should be on the logbook.
to look at it though that engine should have a single plug ecu and it has a 3 plug. a vtr of that reg (assuiming its not a very late reistered one) should have the 3 plug ecu and later engine

LeeM
11th July 2009, 21:38

ha ha theres plenty of genuine reasons for it to have a new engine!

It's possible I spose, does it mention anywhere in the documents about a engine change/mileage?

LeeM
11th July 2009, 21:44
not necesarily a bodge, whoever has done the conversion has just used the original car ecu and loom. could be that the headgasket or cam belt went on the original engine, in a vtr its cheaper to just swap the engine out than fix it

That's not really anything to worry about, It's just looking worse because the paint has peeled.

As said though mate, There could be a number of reasons why the engine was changed, and if that was the engine that was available then that's why it was fitted.

Plenty of people on here have engine transplants and cut up the existing loom to make it work. That doesn't make it a bodge.

Is everything working as it should? Paticularly the dials, interior stuff and the fan? If so, then stop worrying...

I was winding you up earlier, I'll admit that :p but looking at the car, it's fairly standard and somebody must have cared about it enough to replace the engine once the old one went tits up so seems to have been well looked after.

LeeM
11th July 2009, 21:57
if you wanna see a bodge come and look at my throttle cable
