Fitted some GTi rear dampers to my car on Saturday, went on quite smoothly and the bolts came off with a bit of musscel and ALOT of WD40.

I lowered the car and shock it side to side for a while to settle the dampers, i've noticed its sitting higher on the left, and lower on the right.

I've not yet taken it for a drive, as i need a new drum. But will they need driving round and setteling in for a few days?

Thanks

hi matey this might sound daft but have you released the handbrake a cuople of times ? .

or have you done up the bolts fully before dropping the car down

try nipping off the bolts while the car is on the floor, i just changed ny dampers yesterday and the same happened.

Yes, released the handbreak, shock car side to side.

I did them TIGHT while up in the air, the bolts were a bas*ad to get to as they are facing in towards the apre wheel.

I changed the dampers like for like, the right way up too. I cleaned the bolts up, applied copper slip (So easier to come undone next time). I ensured the bolts were back in the same holes, as one is longer then the other.

Should i had nipped the dampers up in the air? Then fully tightened them while the ar is on all 4 wheels?

Thanks
Dan

wont make any difference tighten on the floor.

the dampers should make no difference at all to ride height so it will just be they have not sttled from lowering it back down. when you take it a drive it will settle back to what it was.

If you havnt alread just roll the car back and forwards, as jacking the car up and lowering it again will make the wheels sit at a camber and make it look that way.

when doing the rear dampers you should ALWAYS tighten the bolts when all four wheels are on the ground NEVER when in the air

manufactor torque settings are when he car is in the air. i would love to see you get a socket on some the bolts on a very low car.

in the air is perfectly fine

dampers dont hold the car up, they simply "dampern" the ride your torsion bars hold your car at a certain hight, so dampers will have no affect onm how high or low your car is

are you sure its been lowered the same height each side dampers have nothing to do with it?:y:

i think its because the dampers don't have much presure in them, Hence the reason they need working to build up the oil presure inside

I'll give it a few days to see what happens and if they settle

they dont need pressure building up mate. the dampers will make no difference to the height at all unless they are broken in some way
