could come in handy. the shop where i work might be closing at end of next week, as they are closing 120 shops and leaving 80 open and if the shop stays open where i am then they always looking for warehouse staff if you interested if it stays open- notice you dont live far from harlow either :P which helps lol

ha ha, was just messing, but I do need a job! I do live local though!

I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes out (employment).. If you're not picky, I had reservations about catering/working in a restaurant, but changed my mind now, that could be okay I guess.

What's more surprising is this though, my CV is frankly, amazing, I have like a tree's worth of copies, then I noticed. It doesn't have my name on :'(.

Haha, they are cracking down on us big style, the site I'm on is terrible, the boards need to be locked off for other trades as they apparently are stupid. We have to wear gloves during all work, it is poor things are just going from bad to worse. One of our sites got closed down the other week because a plasterer got a belt, and is now going through RIDDOR. We get blame for owt lol

All the sites we work on have to be strict. Everything must be locked off. We work in places that insist on gloves during all work. Completely daft when trying to wire panels. In the steelworks they banned the use of steps/ladders at one point. But the price of scaffolding to change a lightbulb meant they relaxed that ruling.

We were doing a job on a gas plant and somebody pointed to something on the floor. "is that asbestos?" it was. whole place shut down for 2 months and everybody got laid off whilst they removed it. There's gas and asbestos everywhere in the steelworks, lol. Just don't touch it and don't breath too much gas in :y:

I'm not with JTL no mate..Can't remember what my body is called, never bloody can. Did my HNC with a bloke who was with JTL. They seem pretty good to be fair, they're pay seems to be anyway :P

Jesus, our sites sound okay compared to yours, banning the use of ladders jesus. It's been safe for so many years yet some up his own arse safety inspector thinks he knows best.
Asbestos, love the stuff. One of our lads is waiting to die from it atm, he was under a floor crawling about, and a site manager came in and inspected the floor beams, while he was down there he noticed it. Fucking maybe not then. Have you checked out the pay guidelines from JTL. Sure they have fairly good standard pay rates. Your boss is just pocketing it all. :P

I was put to work on a site just after christmas before last and stayed there for almost a year and was pretty much used as cheap labour for the whole time. Learnt fuck all just because the foreman didn't like me as much as the other apprentice (who hates getting dirty, doesn't listen, won't ask questions and is basically useless working on his own) but luckily now I'm working in the shit the directors are getting all good feedback about me. Yeah we are meant to get JIB rates, well when my boss feels like being part of the JIB. Haha.
We have an apprentice like that, when everyone is around he tries bossing me around, when they leave he asks stupid questions like my fave was "Do I take a neutral to this switch like the other one" that was only last week, I just walked off and told him to ask a supervisor, crueal of me, but he annots me lol. Feedback getting back to me is good too, but my mate who works at the same company, is getting shit feedback. Not too great =\

Ai he's the same. When we were both on this site, the supervisor would always tell him what to do, deliberately not telling me, he'd just sit there nodding and agreeing. But didn't understand any of it, but would never ask. As soon as our foreman fucked off, he'd turn to me and ask me if I heard what he said. And any work getting done he got the credit for.

So glad I'm not still up there!

I did the 17th one night a week for 10 weeks, first regs course I've done so had to do the full thing. Did it in 10 weeks as I have my nvq and hnc to worry about.

My inspection and testing was 5 days and the exam was about month after. If you do it quite regularly then it's not too bad, but it's a shit load to take in if it's not familiar. Our course cost over 2 and a half grand and there were four of us doing it.

You noticed work has increased recently? Certainly down here it as since everybody is trying to save money with cutting out scaffolders.

£2500 is a joke. Every time i mention it 2 the gaffa he says i'll sort it, been waitn 6 months lol HNC how do you fit that in around work?? 1day college/uni a week?? you boff lol

but would having the 17th aswell as part p and T & I be better than 3/4 years getting the nvq's...

The 17th, part p etc are all regs. so just means you can comply with the regs. The nvq's teaches you what to do.

By doing the 17th and the part p, you haven't been taught how to wire a motor circuit for instance. By having all the courses you have only been taught the regs in these courses. The actually practice is taught through nvq's.

For instance, you could know all the regs under the sun and still have fuck all clue of how to wire a house. The nvq's are what you do in order to gain your trade.

You may know exactly what you're doing electrically, but you didn't learn it from the regs did you? You learnt it from somewhere else.

Exactly. The nvq's is just the hand's on part of it all.

My nvq doesn't include any teachers or fuck all. All my nvq is, is documenting what I have done. I have to write reports of job's I have done and answer a bunch of knowledge questions. Everything I get taught is on the job.

So the regs and the nvq's are 2 totally different things and can't really be compared. One can be better than the other in some circumstances. But having both is even better.

Currently un-employed and have been for around a year now :(

I've tried my best to find a job, applied to well over a 100 companies, of the few that got back to me i was unsuccesful.

Im at college and have been for 2 year..

Passed my Level 2 City and Guilds 2330 Electrical engineering course and currently half way through the Level 3 NVQ in electrical and mechanical engineering and electronics.

Tried getting an apprenticeship, no luck.

So if anyone in or near South Yorkshire needs someone, let me know, please, im getting pretty desperate.

Bank balance is reading £80 and i've got a saxo to run.
