You are only allowed fog lights when visibility is at 100 metres or less during heavy rain or fog.
In the dark your foglights would be less help than your main beams so pointless anyway.

you can see the sides of the road better with fog lights, especially on a country lane where there is no curb

They aren't foglights on a 106gti they are driving lights they actually light up the road, whereas fog lights just make you look like a twat

calm it bickerton, i wassn't asking because i wanted to do it
i was ASKING if it was legal or not, because i was having a discussion with a friend today, and i said "i'll ask the boys on saxp"
so no need to start this "people who drive with their fogs on are cunts" arguement

Wasn't starting an arguement, was pointing out they were driving lights and that foglights unless foggy are pointless being on and a pain in the arse to oncoming drivers , decent bulbs in your headlights will light up the side of the road just fine

Without reading this thread, the answer to your question is Yes.
Fog lights really do add 20+ bhp.
The figures will be even higher if enabled when there is no actual fog, as this puts strain on the lights.

Decent set of bulbs in normal headlamps and it's perfectly easy to see where you're going in the dark. If you struggle, Stay in at night :P

Foglights both front and rear are illegal to have on when visibility is fine (afaik) will get a fixed penalty if police decide to pull you about it

are driving lights legal with full beams in any condition that requires full beams then?

Why would you not want to do it?
All it takes is one little switch then its a +20bhp increase
Pretty cheap considering cams are 300+ tbh!
Must be dumb if you don't drive with the fogs on

surely if its raining then fog lights will reflect off the wet road and could dazzle other drivers?

Yeah, full beam is for poor light no poor visability ;)

Yea, it's illegal, but if you've got main beam on, there's nothing infront, so no one's gonna know.
It's what I do, cause my standard lights are shit. Does actually make a bit of a difference, lights up the sides a bit, and a slightly brighter beam.

I got pulled for having my foglights on (just add it was foggy when i put them on) i came onto the main high street and the police got me and warned me.
My uncle is also a MET policeman, it's an offence because they take it as "blinding other drivers intentionally"

Problem is, some people genuinely forget to turm then off etc but meh.
Also it's not the oncoming tards that annoy me, its the guy infront with the rear fog on in clear weather dazzling me cos he thinks he looks coo with the fronts on, twat...

I think they were probably just scared.
They know they would never be able to keep up with us Saxo drivers if we were allowed to run our engines with the fogs on, so they lie and tell us its illegal so we won't be tempted ;)

On the subject of rear fogs, someone had one on infront of me yesterday. In a Mk3 Fiesta. Where there are no front fogs and IIRC, the rear fog is on a switch on the centre console...

same. they get turned off when I turn off my high beam anyway

if a copper saw you, you'd get pulled. however, lots of people wire their fogs to come on with their main beam, and you're not gonna be driving around with your main beam on all the time are you!

18th July 2009, 14:22
i used to use them on dark country roads at night, if i saw an on coming car i would turn them off along with my full beams.
it helped visibility and if that makes me a cunt so be it
