I was embarrased to own a saxo today.

Hi all.

Today in town there was an open day at the new diy garage. Loads of cars there, mostly modded jap cars (owner is in that scene), a nice liquid yellow 182 and two 206 gti180's. I was the only saxo there.

Mine looks pretty much std, with only the exhaust and brakes giving anything away, but it was clean and got a few looks which i didnt expect from the jap crowd. Most the lads round my way have jap or VW, but still appreciate mine cos ive done subtle performance mods. You'll probably know theres banter between different marques of car owners.

When all of a sudden a saxo vtr pulls up outside on the road, music pumping out loud and floors it past everyone in 1st.

Que everyone looking, pointing and laughing at them.

Id never seen the car before, so they travelled here to do it. And to achieve what?

If it was someone on here, shame on you because you looked a right twat and 100% supported the bad image saxos have.

Im not embarrased by my car, but when i see some lads do what they did in a saxo kinda makes me think wtf. I still have a lot of love for my saxo and im in no rush to move on.

Like i said, people i know like my car.

And of course it is the driver that makes the image of themselves, not the car.

We had a laugh about it, but it was pretty sad of these lads to do it. Before i arrived apparently someone in a focus went up and down the road on the limiter, then stopped and did a wheelspin into the carpark, and was asked to leave asap. That wasnt and isnt the image this place wants to be associated with.

Daz - yes ive owned two, a vtr and now vts, dont think ive made the wrong decision on the car other than when it breaks. I can see myself keeping at as a second track car for some time yet as i like the car.

It could have been a corsa r fiesta that did it, and there was a monstrosity or two there today. But i just think its a shame that people have to act like it whatever car they drive, it just so happened to be a saxo today.

Completely agree. I can live with the stereotype because im confident i dont fit it and neither does my car.

There was a reliant regal there, caged, spaceframed, rwd with ford duratec on throttle bodies running apparently 270bhp. Sounded insane when he came out the workshop and down the road.

He made a lot more noise but of course everyone liked it. Probably be the same if a well modded saxo did it, just these lads in the vtr were obviously trying too hard to impress.

cuz they are heavey on insurance especially a VTS
id reither be in my saxo then wht other 17 year olds drive (KA) or a old micra

All the chavs round these parts have moved from their corsas onto vts/s' now. I dont think it matters really though, its a good car (albeit not as good as an ax) i wouldnt be embarased to drive one. Unless is was extra specially 'styled' as alot are :D

Very true. Everytime the lads see a high powered Evo, supra or Skyline blitzing it passed, they're like "ah sweet!" When a little Astra/saxo/fiesta/corsa does it they all laugh. All down to the stereotype and image associated with different cars.

I think Saxo's are starting to get out of there imagine, certainly not as bad as it use to be.
I think this because there aren't as many on the road.

People round my way seem to understand that the VTS is an okish car in the hands of someone that can drive. Still too many shitty VTR's around for my liking.

So this is my plan.
Keep my S in my garage for a while and wait til all the rest of the decent S's are sold, smashed or broken and then get the old girl out again.
Then she will have her day.
