Hi,
Had an absolute nightmare yesterday coming back from holiday in west country. First the gear stick went completely loose when about to pull out of motorway service station so I had to call out the AA who 'fixed' it. He said he had to replace a nut that had come off the gear box. So then I drove onto the motorway and after a couple of miles the gear stick wouldn't go into gear at all. We called the AA again, but got one of their subcontractors, who said that the clutch had collapsed, and it had nothing to do with the gearbox, and was not reparable roadside. Since I only had roadside on my policy I had to pay to upgrade and loads more to get me to London. A total nightmare involving 3 changes of tow vehicle. I've taken it to a garage who are charging millions to replace the clutch.
The question I have is this: could what the AA man have caused the second problem in any way? If so, I hope to have a claim against them for the recovery and repair costs.
Any advise from someone who looks under the bonnet of a car more often than me (ie everyone) would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Mark
