I paid £750 for my S-reg VTR, thought I had got a bargain, had no end of shit with it, cambelt was on the wrong way round when I got it. N-S driveshaft had to be replaced, had to be welded on the chassis, and now it greets me with a cloud of blue smoke when I start it up.
squee
22nd July 2009, 23:22
yeah it does need tidying up a bit. its completely standard and i think its a good base to start with?

Hell yeah, I have bought a MK3 Astra to replace it with, but it's just like driving round in a sea of grey plastic, and lacks the personality that the Saxo has....i'm torn as to which to get rid of tbh. I love the smile the saxo puts on my face, but hate it when lads in beemers or mercs look at u like your a worthless piece of shit
looks ragged tbh mate
Are you being serious?
Looks in good condition considering the price!!
To the owner, check underneath and in the arches for rust/corrosion.

i got him down from 250 cos of the immobiliser and my old mans a whiz mechanic! worked with citroens plenty before so he knows his shit! he looked at it today and says it looks ok but cant really tell till its going! so as soon as i got it started i will find out if its a bag of nails or a proper bargain!
Body wise, there is a slight scuff on drivers door and a shallow dent about the size of a penny on the passenger rear quarter. The wheels are in poor condition by my standards and i dont know wether to refurb or replace? not decided yet! suppose i should wait till its going! even if i have to spend a couple hundred to get it moving its still a good buy isnt it?

i dont know who said it looed ragged?
doesnt know what he is talking about obviously. the car looks to be in good condition from the pic.
whether you bought it for yourself to drive or to make some cash off it, you have a hell of a deal there mate.
once you have checked the engine thoroughly and underneath, check the wheel arches, sills and any part of the exposed chasis for any kind of corrosion. not all corrosion is bad news. if it is only slight a scrub with a wire brush and a rub down with sandpaper, then treat it with some anti rust agent, and it will be ok to seal up again.
if and when you have checked it over fully, and if you do find out that it is fucked, head gasket problems or otherwise, then for £100 it is worth the cash to fix really. unless the list of issues is as long as your arm... but like some 1 said you can strip that car down and make £1000 off it no danger. or have a look over it, and clean up what you can and re-sell it for £800.
coz the car looks kinda tidy mate.
well done for the good deal, and next time you have a deal like that on your hands... think about sharing the info with your good mates at saxp! i want a slice of the action! :P
Newtz07
24th July 2009, 12:35
oh and BTW, if you do decide to strip it, 1st dibs on the front bumper!
bargains are out there, i bought my westie for £500, and it needed fuck all doing to it. and it still runs like a dream! (it has 2 massive dints in the doorrs, but no paint loss, so will get fixed for about £50)

I hate the fact you all got your cars for so cheap! I feel like I paid mega bucks for mine and it was buggered hard.
Still £100 for any motor is a bargain and if it all goes tits up you could break it and get a decent return. Good buy imo :y:
squee
26th July 2009, 21:25
Well, the underneath has been checked by a mate whos a welder for mots and its spot on! no rust on the arches or sills but a few paint bubbles on pass door...balls!
if i cant get it going either cos of money/time or its fucked, i will be selling parts on sax-p! though i really hope i dont have to!

Good news! I got the starter motor and a new transponder pickup ring for the the total cost of £15 today, stuck them to the car and after turning over about 6 times it spluttered into life with some smoke (been sat for 6 months see!) and after about 30 seconds it sorted itself out, quit smoking and went for a run! and its sweeeeet!
no nasty noises coming from the engine or brakes, gear change is fine, clutch is smooth and brakes are shit as standard i believe? So, I have a decent looking vtr for £115 quid! Now to get an mot on her and pay bastard brown some tax to pay for his cleaners....grr!
Next question, how do i start a progress thread?
last but not least...WAHEEEEEEYYYY!!!

23rd August 2009, 19:42
Right, I got her started and runnig nice yesterday and everything as far as im aware works! left it running for a good 20 minutes and it didnt overheat and it ticked over nice and steady the whole time. took it for a "quick spin" and f*ck me it flys! and pas, brakes and suspension all seem fine.
So, popped to halfrauds and picked up my K&N indiction kit and a couple of other fiddly bits to tidy her up and booked the mot for 8.00 Tuesday morning so watch this space!
So far ive only spent
£100 on the car
£15 on the starter motor
£40 on K&N - half price :)
fingers crossed it will be on the road by friday!

26th August 2009, 21:50
I hit the bus shelter after changing the starter motor! i moved a rod to try and get to it easier and slipped it into first bit forgot tho put it back into neutral...oops!
So i reached in, turned the key and off it went! with me hangin out the side of it!
So lucky nothing was coming and nobody was in the bus shelter!
Thankfully not too much damage done!
Anyway, went for mot yesterday and failed on an ignition problem. It only powers up back lights when it feels like it and indicators only work at a certain point on the barrel so picking up a new one tomorrow!
Emissions, chassis and engine are all spot on so thats a relief!
Going for a retest next thursday and im sure it will do it this time!
wazz
26th August 2009, 21:54
do you wanna sell it??? :) £150
squee
26th August 2009, 22:03

Plus i actually like the sax. it has character! :)

4th September 2009, 22:10
Good news! its on the road finally! passed the mot today after second attempt. the first time it failed on.
Offside front position lamp not in good working order (not working)
Rear position lamps not in good working order (not working)
Rear stop lamps not working
Direction indicators not in good working order (not working)
Nearside front headlamp not in good working order adversely affecting beam image
Horn does not function
Offside outer front constant velocity joint gaiter split
Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exessive (required 0.3%. actual 3.1%)
So, i got my hands dirty, spent my spare time fixing and swearing a lot and got it through!
Now to get it tidy and make some subtle changes (will avoid halfrauds) and enjoy my small french investment!
