Hi I have just got back from a 2 week holiday, went to use the car (2000 furio) and it started fine but the battery light was flickering and there was a ticking from the left side of the dash, I drove it for 10 mins, pulled onto my drive and the dash lights went an the steering went very heavy.

After this it wouldn't start up, I just used jump leads off my dads van, starts staright away doing so but it will cut out after roughly 5 mins.

I have checked connections on the battery and I think the alternators connections are fine.

Advice please

yep mate, check the alernator... is it earthed and the belt pulling ok when the engine is on??? ... not tooo expensive top replace though... :)

because the car takes life out of the battery by having electrics on i.e dash lights... the alernator replaces that charge to the battery to keep a cycle of the battery being charged....

My alternator bearings collapsed on me the other day, should of heard the screech from the belt at 60 lol.

Are all the alternators the same size? i.e a 1.1 alternator fitting a vtr?
