...that is:

1 - cheap as a VTS to buy
2 - Same performance (0-60 for example not bhp, so 7.7secs)
3 - insurance group not higher than 14 and about the same to insure
4 - good handling
5 - came out of the factory like that so no 2.0 corsa/nova etc
6 - easy to get parts for, cheap to modify and maintain etc
7 - decent mpg (not bigger than a 1.6)
8 - not an import

I had a think about it and I can't think of any.

Does such thing exist? 106 GTI doesn't count obviously. ;)

A hatchback or more?

It can be coupe, hatchback, saloon, anything...

Mieran dude... you need to get yourself a VTS. :D

Mieran
26th July 2009, 00:22
Might actually do that in October when I turn 21.

The only thing putting me off and want to get another VTR is the mpg. I'll be starting uni in Sunderland so 30mile trip everyday and not sure if its worth getting a VTS.

stu-n-shell
26th July 2009, 00:24
nope dont think so ive only ever known it as the 4th gen or 4g.

when did supras have good handling?

Mieran
26th July 2009, 00:27
Ahh right, the EF series

They were from the 80s, can't really compare them to a VTS and it doesn't comply with rule number 6 lol

6 - easy to get parts for, cheap to modify and maintain etc

VTS consumption should be fine for that dude - should be cheaper to run than a heavy Veccy surely?

I'm finding mine isn't as bad on fuel as I first thought. Got me back from Essex on 3/4 tank... that's 300+ miles so not bad at all really.

R isnt much more economical than an S i find

R is crap

S is win

these are piss easy to get parts for mate and cheap to maintain as you can do alot of the same jobs to them as a sax and they are easy to maintain. when we had ours it needed a new rad, zorst and bonnet pull cable pick it all up for about £50.

Deffo will be. But I'm working now so can afford it, but I'm looking to quit my job and live of student loans :homme:

Insurance isn't that much different between the two either, its about £100.

a suzuki GS 500 . . . problem solved.

cheap insurance
will sit at 100 mph all day long if you wanted, and would still get you over 200 miles to a 10er of fuel.
and if you drop it, there isnt anything to break.

Seriously dude, get it done - you won't regret it. I'm a lowly student and run mine no problem!

Get yourself to a NE meet and go for a spin in one if you want to be sure it's worth it.

Mieran
26th July 2009, 00:48
yeah I've thought about it but I'm not sure if I'm going to use the performance the VTS offers so why get one in the first place if you know what I mean.

---

Btw this thread got nothing to do with what car I'm getting next, I was just wondering what sort of cars are on the same level as a VTS lol

Liam_
26th July 2009, 00:51
A good VTS doesn't seem to go for any more money than a good VTR. Providing insurance is a manageable amount, I'd grab a VTS every time. Much smoother and a joy to drive tbh. :)

The GTI is a nice looking motor, but it's the same car for more money... and only an insurance group less I think?

Mieran
26th July 2009, 00:55
VTS ftw then.

Insurance on a VTR is about £550 and VTS is £640 so not a huge difference.

If I do get an S it will have to be a 2000 or older cos of tax, and must be in mauritious blue or wicked red :D

Liam_
26th July 2009, 00:58
Bargain that... I dread to think what I'll be paying come renewal time, haha.

Not a bad idea. Should be able to pick a good X plate up for peanuts!

2 groups higher, will be better on fuel, but quicker if you want it to be and about the same as a VTS to buy and better built is a phase one 172.

Always prefered the phase 1 172 to the phase 2. Phase 1 looks more raw.

If you wan a cheaper alternative to a vts and i mean cheap look into a metro gti!
