hello

follow up to my new 106 gti

was driving today doing about 50-60

car suddenly felt like it was losing power, thought engine was seizing up so i quickly stopped

first i was not getting into gear proper

now when i drive it clunking like every revolution of the wheel and its making a proper loud whirring noise (passenger side)

all gears work but sometimes its gets stuck in gear and have to yank out

will i need to skim flywheel if i get a new clutch

any ideas much appreciated

thanks

sam

ps what would indicate a blown gear box

Seems like mine was, this morning I changed gear into 4th and it blew a hole in the side of the gearbox the size of my fist.. oil leaked on the exhaust and it caught fire, id get it checked bud lol

It could be the clutch slipping or broken clutch friction plate spring or the release bearing. Perhaps the clutch is contaminated with oil.

You just replace the clutch, pressure plate and release bearing as a kit - no need to skim the flywheel.

The "losing power" comment suggests that it is the clutch rather than the gearbox as a slipping clutch will feel like this.

Try pulling away in fourth gear. The car should stall, if it doesn't then the clutch needs to be replaced.
