Morning guys and girls

recently got my hand on a replacement central locking key fob as the previous owner lost it. Now its already programed for another car, does this mean i need to clear the saved code on it before trying to connect it to my car.

I have tried the unlock the car and press the button twice within 20seconds but with no joy.

Any help would be great as dont want to be paying shitroen anything really.

would removing the keyfob battery for 24hours or something clear it?

This is just a complete grey area to me

Hi Tom,

The remote control (plipper) needs to be recognised by your car's central locking control unit.

The re-initialisation procedure you mentioned only works for a remote that has already been registered with your central locking control unit.

The identity of your new remote needs to be programmed and I have not seen anyway that you can do this without special diagnostic equipment (Citroen) that lets you write to the ECU and control unit.

It should take Citroen only 5 mins or so, but they will charge you 30 mins of labour to programme the remote.

Tom,

Also early remotes and systems used infrared but later ones high-frequency (HF) radio.

Two separte things here.

Here is how to get your remote control working after changing the battery:

Changing the remote control battery

Pop open the case to the keyfob to gain access to the battery: CR 1620 (3V) button cell and replace the battery.

The remote control must be reinitialised after changing the battery. To do this, use the key to unlock the doors and press button A [LOCK] on the remote control twice.

The immobiliser works based on a transponder chip inside the key and is separate to the remote locking.
