as part of my uni course as i have written in past posts i have to enter two competitions for my final year this is about the second comp i am entering it is called formica design a laminate basically anything that can be on a piece of paper can go on laminate there are 4 catagories retro, organic, contemporary and street culture i have decided to do one design for each cat this is my first design for street culture ( baring in mind im on a product design course so the tutor specified mine has to have a 3d feel to it!)

i have to confess i was a bit sad and as i dont normally donate to charity i found myself buying every band i saw i basically got them all together and took a pic then shuffled them took another pic a couple of times put the pics on photoshop deleted the white bacground and created layers and layers to get what you see i think its fairly relevent to the catagory what do you think?

From one product designer to another that is really cool. Particulairly like the fact that there is not a block background colour, it looks like its ongoing and gives a brill 3d effect

I think it embodies the "street culture" theme perfectly and expresses the influence of companies on the working class people of modern society. smileys/smiley2.gif

yeah makes the photoshop file massive tho think i have around 70 layers! jpeg is massive to think ill take it into uni to print rather then waste my own ink on that!nowhere on the pic is there an area not covered by a band that was my aim!

it's nice mate and is very retro but..
I can't see any kind of deeper meaning behind it that summarises that category unlike the street culture design that you already showed us.
VTaaRon
10th January 2006, 04:11
yeah thats why i dont like it as much but if you look at previous winners on the web site www.designalaminate.com very few of them seem to have deeper meanings pardon the pun but whats on the surface is it!

that acrylic is cool lookforward to seeing more. the watch has taken a little back seat for the mo but constantly thinking of stuff for it should all be wraped up end of the month might do a little director work to show the time scrolling on it and some still shots heres one of the model dont know if i showed it before
