Hey,
I Want to get some comps today, just something nice to replace the standard front door speakers I have a VTR 01.
My head unit is a sony GT6UI or somet like that with 52x4 watt output.
I was wondering if these would be a straight swap over from the standards and would they sound alright from my head unit?
Im not bothered about mega bass just something better than the standards for a reasonable price.
Thanks !

Neither.

It doesnt matter what head unit you have to what components you use.

Get some JBL GTO506C components and amp them up.

jbl gto 506c

best budget comps out there

and no, your headunit does not produce 52w x 4

and yes ripspeed are one of the worst things imaginable

Well thats what it says on the tin mate

Ashleyp

Well thats what it says on the tin mate

its 52 x 4 max

realistically considering its sony, id say maybe 15wrms x 4

max figures mean nothing

I know this, but I thought I'd mention it because I have seen a post on here where someone said something like... if your head unit is crap it wont have enough power to make them work...Cause i wasnt planning on using any amps or anything.
I just wanted to replace the standards and away i go... But i came on here for advice so i will take it.

no theyre on ebay for well under £50

and the "box" is the crossover, it sperates the freqs between the woofer and the tweeter.

sounds complicated, but is really easy to wire up

well i know that my sony hu says 52x4 too but im sure ashley can clear up what this means

as i said, 52 x 4 is max, it means nothing

its less than 20wrms - the real figure

Carlvtr88

the cross overs i mean.

Ashleyp

Yeah.. are they big ? Because im just thinking.... where the hell am I gona stick them lol

in the door card, you have two "pockets" or "door bins"

the one towards the back of the door card (furthest away from the hinge, and closest to the lock) houses the crossovers perfectly

ooh ok, fair enough, now were getting somewhere... I cant find any on ebay but I will keep looking.... so basically a stand alone pair to replace the factory ones running off my head unit would not be much better ?
Cause theres some from halfords for like £30.
I think i posted the link to them.... theres no crossover or nothing just 2 speakers that i assume are plug n play lol.

Ive just put some jbl gto 506c in my saxo and sound mint to be honest.

also standalone ones wouldnt be much better, components are the best to be honest as you got the tweeter and crossover, where the crossover seperates the freqs between woofer and tweeter as ash said

the crossover is really easy to wire up, you get a white and grey cable in the box.

i used white for both tweeters to crossover and both grey for woofers to crossover on each side.

its best to amp these up to be honest, get a amp that can run around 50-70wrms and your away, then on the input of the crossover just run speaker wire from amp + and - to crossover + and -

here is a set of 507c exactly same specs really just newer click me for 507c (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO507c-2-way-165W-13cm-5-25-car-component-speaker_W0QQitemZ250471996522QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_Car _Speakers_PP?hash=item3a514b5c6a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)

anymore help wanted feel free to pm me

the jbl ones from halfrauds are ok, nothing more

a coaxial style speaker will never ever be as good as a component system.

after a quick search on ebay, it appears the JBL's have finally sold out, they were discontinued so it was a chance to grab a bargain on the last few

yea if its just 2 speakers your getting, then they're most likely going to coaxials...

coaxials are speakers that pretty much only produce treble, no mids or bass, cheap ones are terribly shit, but some of the more expensive ones can be quite good.

in audio you get what you pay for, 30 quid isn't alot, so in theory yout getting nothing for your money, probly just the same as standard tbh...

get those jbl comps that were mentioned a few posts up, you won't regret it and they do sound nice...

Carl.

Anyway, Thanks everyone...good honest advice !

take that as a no then

seriously, 508s < 507s

if your going to spend the money youd spend on a set of 508s youd want to spend it on a set of herts 130s or spl 5.2D

but to run off a headunit, the 507s are perfect, especially a sony unit.. unless your amping, dont buy anything other than the 507s

Elliott
2nd August 2009, 11:40
seriosly mate listen to us.
get the 507c

and if you want to get the 508c then your wasting your money because if your running off the head unit then it will be pointless.

for the price your paying for the 508c you can get the hertz or SPL's which are bloodty good speakers and will kick shit out the jbl's

but then you would want to be amping them up

Carlvtr88
