gearbox question.

My gearbox is noisy as hell in neutral and is hard to get into gears ( basically fucked ). Would this result in a creaking noise when braking ? It happens in gear and when coasting. Im thinking that the gearbox has knackered the driveshaft maybe?
Someone please shed some light
