i removed my gearbox off vts... the clutch friction plate/disc was broken. the ring that goes round was in a c-shape if you know what i mean...
basically, can a faulty gearbox cause this?
im worried incase the new clutch breaks again
thanks

Sam,
Not sure I understand "the ring that goes round was in a c-shape". Do you mean the ring with splines or the pressure plate that goes over the friction plate.
Pretty severe for a clutch friction plate to snap tho. try grabbing the transmission input shaft - that is the shaft with the splines that the clutch goes on to - and see if you can move it either side -to -side or up and down. This will show if the input shaft bearing is worn.
