and would mind one as a weekend'er/toy

dose anybody know the exact running costs

looking at a lower milage model, there for few years will need a rebuild,
which i can do myself although are parts expensive to replace..

any knowledge would be greatly appriciated :y:

I love them, just not the running costs and the inevitable rebuild(s), Could get more power from other jap motors and be more reliable. Thet do look good though, especialy when not overdone

Engine rebuilds, high oil consumption and high general maintenance, twitchy handling in the wet, but they are one of the most loved designs to come from the land of the rising sun.

i love rx-7's the only downside is the engine rebuild, hitting you after about 40-50k miles, if you can get one that has already been done then it isnt that big a deal, but if you want it for 6 months for some fun then i think it would be good

tbh if i were to buy one id be looking at one which has had the rebuild with reciepts

parts are difficult to get hold of

my friend bought a front end damaged one 5 years ago and has only just finished repairing rebuilding it

they get about 18-20mpg, use about a litre of oil every 1-1.5k miles even after a rebuild, hard for parts, in a straight line theyre stupid fast and feel even quicker because theyre so smooth. but in the twisties they dont fill you with much confidence and in the wet they feel like theyre gonna ut you in a ditch at any second. but you dont see many about and they look stunin and are a good laugh to drive though.:y:

just keep an eye out fo one with all the reciepts because there is a lot of knackered ones about.;)

get one and worry about the cost later lol.

bits arnt as hard to get hold of as people would think on any of the jap cars instantly for my celica i can get any part i want by just researching the web it may involve a bit of waiting around as you wont find it easy to put your hand on the bits in your local scrappy so may have to wait a week or 2 but you will find the bits you want on the forums if not there ebay or jap parts specialists, expect to pay more for parts than a saxo just an example i bought some facelift jdm lights secondhand, my vts when i bought mk2s were 25 quid including postage, these were 124 quid so theres your difference in costs.but get yourself on the forums theres always owners breaking cars on all the forums, ebays also good.

and you will pay 2-3-4 times the price of saxo bits and watch yourself importing bits from japan you get stung when they enter this country with vat and tax on top of whats half the price in japan it ends up more expensive to buy it from japan than here depending on what you are buying.

Agree with this in all honesty.

There are better more reliable Jap motors available but these are really rare which will gives you the feeling that your unique.

Far more rarer than Supra's and Silvia S15's and 200sx's. But then again the reason these are more popular is probably due to the fact they are more reliable.

RX 7's are really nice put I would prefer a well built MR-2 for the running costs if anything else.

Must have been a bad example, rx7s are generally regarded as up there with the top handling jap motors.. 50/50 weight distribution etc

awesome cars but the rebuild issues etc is what put me off getting one. MR2 was the way forward tbh :D

Poor mans version! But poor men don't spend a fortune on repairs and rebuilds either ;)

Had one a couple of years ago now. Running costs were immense (as I used to love driving it) but didn't have it long. As it ended up with damaged rotor seals (I think thats what it was) Even though I had paperwork showing it had been rebuilt just after being brought into the country, about 20k miles before I got it.
Oh well, I had fun in it.
Swapped it for a Cav Turbo, that I then sold for £4.5k. So didn't really lose out on that one.

Would love one again, but when I start getting paid more.
