My new job is working for Palm Paper who are a German owned company. There's around 2000 employees in Germany and only 2-300 in England.
We get a LOT of German employees over for various reasons and they make a MASSIVE effort to speak English, which is nice.
The company often looks to train people from England in Germany. Ideally i want to one of those people. However, i dont know any German, not even "hello" or "goodbye". I think if made the effort to learn then it would show my willingness and possibly help me gain more German training, which is never a bad thing.
So if you do speak fluent German, is it a hard language to learn? Any hints or tips?
Anyone learnt a new language since leaving school? If so, how did you go about it? I.E what materials did you use?
Thankooo

German is pretty simple, best of using Rosetta Stone PC software, you will pick it up in no time!

Its fairly easy to pick up, + most german people can often understand english so if really screw up they will see you have made effort and then intern try and help you with their english.
Some of the translations here are so wrong :D
The main problem most people struggle with is when to use the 'masculine, femanine and neuter'.
things like, Der, die and das, Mein, meine, mienen etc..... If writing it the language has changed recently aswell, iirc the B with the tail which was a double S isnt used as much, although it still was in use when i learned it.

German is the easiest language to learn out of the common ones like french, spanish, italian etc.. Some words are really similar to english words..

I did French, German and Spanish for A-Level.
German was the most difficult, but when you got the hang of the grammar, it made a lot of sense and became easier....
It is trying to get your head round which one of the 16 words for the word "THE" you need to use, Masculine, Feminine, Neuter, Plural and then is it Nominative, Accusative, Dative or Genetive....it really is tough for a newbie lol

It's a good move, expose yourself to as much of the language as possible etc.
Best way is to practice, practice and practice. Sign in to Saxp.de or whatever they have. German's hard as the Germans all speek pretty good English, which makes it hard ot practice.

Gehen Sie und verbringen Sie ein Jahr, das und Arbeiten in Deutschland lebt. Stellen Sie sich den Spass vor, dass Sie am Nürburgring Gebiet haben könnten!

its difficult with the written grammar etc, but if its to be spoken as you said then it shouldnt matter.
if you can spare the time, spend as long as you can in germany to try and pick up the language as well as learning it from CD/tapes etc :)

Go to Germany and work there for a year. Speek some German and go to the ring
Don't get much exposure to it now days, but that's my guess!
