saxo 1.4 with 1.6 head

right so my mate has a 1.4i saxo with a 1.6i 8v head on it, he insists that makes it faster however i've been told it lowers the compression ratio as its made for a bigger engine, and if he put a 1.1 head on it it would increase the compression ratio and make it faster.

is this correct? thanks
