So i was driving home last night and at about 45mph my bonnet flew open with no warning..... id done about 100 miles that day most of them at around about 80mph and the bonnet was fine (last time the bonnet was popped was either sunday or saturday.) Theres been plenty of these on here so im not guna bother postin pictures up, bonnet is nakerd windscreen completly smashed and roof dented in at ariel mounting point.....
All i want to know is it possible to fix the roof or is it a write off? i no a few body shops and even a guy who owns one but havnt been able to get in touch with any of them so far. obviously i cant just leave the roof as a windscreen wont fit in.

Could technically put a new skin on, this is why they seem to be a write off.
May damage the chassis in some way tho, depends on each individual case tho i would imagine

Craig (saxo180) had it and got a new roof skin, it isnt cheep though, maybe better off claiming for the car as a write off, and getting a new one..

claiming for the car is a definate no, not worth it as the insurence for me (which is up for renewal nxt month) will go up to around 3k its 700 as it is now. how much are skins? and whats involved in removal/fitting? are the spot welded in? i work at a garage so can do most of the work myself if not all of it depending if any thing needs to be welded (i cant weld)

roof has to be cut out, windscreen out, new roof in properly, welded back in, new windscreen, painting, new bonnet...
Roof Skin £100?
Fitting £200?
Windscreen 100-150
Bonnet £40
thats just guesses for the roof skin aswell, and fitting.. paints going to be another £100+ aswell

bit expensive like, i can get it welded in for free so the labour wouldnt be a problem like but still canny expensive, not really worth spending the money on it, plus as soon as it would be fixed i want rid of it as i wont ever trust it again. guess its getting broke.....
Edit: P.S cheers for info guys

plus if the bonnet hingers have pulled at the body, there would be getting that lined up again.
Better off breaking, or claiming tbh

New roof skin from citroen is £120 as i was needing it for the race car,
fitting it is diddly squat would cost no more than £30 (but your getting it free) painting £50-£100
Windscreen is about £120 iirc from what people were saying from RAC
Bonnet again probably about £40-£50
so your looking at about £360 to repair, :y:

unlikley imo, very strong where they are mounted, worst case they will need new hinges but they are bolt on.

same thing happened to me mate when i had me saxo basically was driving up this dual carriageway picking up speed like so i was doing something like 45mph next thing u know the bonnet has flew up and stayed there so i took me head out the window parked up on the side. I only had bonnet hinge damage and roof damage where the aerial is because of that my windscreen survived. I didnt change nothing couldnt be bothered spending money on it so I just sorted the hinges and started using the same lot.

seems to happen often on a mark 2, maybe worth making a saftey strap for them in future so if it does come open it will be stoped by a strap

but they spoil the smooth look of the bonnet the catches, where as a strap under the bonnet which would allow it to lift enought to un clip it for acess but so it cant flick open .

I agree, put alot (alot) of effort into this car, just have to weigh up cost against repair, as Tom is right claiming on insurance is no option!
