Should it just pop off with a good yank or is there hidden screws?

as in the dial surround? have you removed the steering column covers? Removed the two screws up to and the two screws at the bottom of the dial surround? If not a yes to all these then giving it a good yank is not advisable

If I remember rightly, you have to remove your steering wheel to get to the last screws behind the indicater/wiper switches.
