PLEASE HELP! i attempted to wire my 6x9's to the rear car seat speakers (however only tried one first didnt do both at the same time). when i took the panel off i followed the two yellow and white cables to the speaker so that i knew they were the rear speakers. once i did this i cut them half way and wired the wire to the 6x9 speaker which i thought would send the music to the 6x9 and not the origional speaker. at the time i didnt know which cable was pos and neg so i tried one way and that didnt work so i switched it over and they didnt work! not only that my door speakers dont work, the back speakers dont work, the 6x9's dont work, the only audio output if from the sub box which you cant hear as its not designed to do that. If it helps i think when testing the two cables may have touched!

What do you think has happened and what can i do about it?

Thanks

its hard to blow speakers with incorrect polarity, unless you overpower them loads and whack them up brand new... try fuses.. incorrect polarity just = shit sound

having said that (sorry it has to be said) sounds like youve done your self a favour, 6x9s just ruin sound quality

sorry reevsey! lol

god im glad youve said that it could be a fuse. cos if i had blown the speakers i dont know what i would have done. Which fuses should i check cos theres loads in the fuse box lol

and how can you wire 6x9's to the back speakers?

Thanks

so the chances are i havn't blown the speakers just a fuse? if thats the case fewwwww! lol i was getting worried, so what do you think iv'e done wrong then? i connected the current yellow and white cable to the 6x9 cables, however they were still exposed as i needed to see which one was pos and neg, and in doing so i think both cables touched. which cable is pos and which is neg? and by me connecting a 6x9 speaker to it im i always going shoet it or put too much power through?

yep apart from me snipping the driver side rear speaker everything is wired ok. Its only since i cut the cable and connected them to the 6x9's they all stopped working

Have you tried disconnecting your rear 6x9s and just running the front speakers on their own?

Morgiee

i tried that when i fucked it up the first time. However the front speakers are not fitted in properally yet and when you go around corners you can hear the vibrations from the front speakers so they may be ok again. Got a day off tomorrow so will cheak everything again. REALLY want this sorting:wall:

I reckon you've still got a short somewhere. Either the outputs are shorted to each other or one is shorting to ground. I'd check the wiring thoroughly.

Also check your HU isn't set to only send signals to the pre-outs, and not the speakers.

what do you look for or how do you check?

Dont know what id be looking for with a shortage

By short I mean an inadvertent connection between the two speaker wires or between one of the wires and the cars chassis.

If you haven't got a DMM or don't know how to use one you'll need to check for things like incorrect wiring, frayed wires, failed insulation etc. Disconnect your speakers and start from scratch. And make sure you disconnect the battery first.
