As above, need an os for my pc as this one messes about somthing cronic :s
What are peoples views, does vista have loads of updates all the time, as only on a slow internet connection here, and that could be an issue!
Also, any place to buy it cheap for the FULL retail version link me up :d Seems to be a minefield of OEM and upgrade packages.....
Cheers :y: Oli

Lool, dont use the pc much, only for the odd bit or brosing/accounts, Want something simple, cheap and low maintenance! :p Used linux before and prefer using something i know (probably not the best attitude) So think a pre order of 7 looks like a good call!
Which do u use then ax?

If you want to stick with Windows then yeah get Windows 7 hands down. Very good operating system compared to the other shit Microsoft manage to produce :y:

Fast, easy to use with nice little features, definatly give that a go!

we've been stubborn and stuck with XP.- mainly due to the fact tht its compatible with the software we run and we know how to fix it when it messes up. I'm going to switch to Win 7 though looks like that'll be the first worthy upgrade from XP

I use 64-bit Vista, and have no problems with it what so ever.
Tried the Windows 7 beta and it was awful, i found compatibility issues with pretty much every device I had, as with all OS i wait till they bring out a service pack, they always come pre-fucked.

Nothing wrong with OEM O/S mate. Nothing at all. Just have to buy it with hardware. Its still full version software!!
I'd go with Windows 7 when the RTM comes out. Or go with Vista Ultimate. XP is the stablest of the lot, but I find it lags on my system. Vista breezes through everything and Windows 7 was just blistering fast! All be it that 7 is based on XP's stability but Vista GUI and hardware communication (blistering fast compared to XP)
Go for 7 mate. Ive got my discounted Windows 7 Ultimate on its way to me once its released :D
Flynn: I've not had any major hardware related issues with W7, only thing it couldnt find was the drivers for my webcam. Everything else was installed!

Mate you've done the right thing. XP is the most stable version of windows still. 7 is pretty stable. From testing the RC2 :)

+1.
Wait for Windows 7, if you buy Windows 7 Ultimate you get a Virtual XP mode with it.
Im gonna wait till I have the £ to upgrade my machine though first, Vista X64 run's fine for me :)
Plan on upgrading my Dual Core to Quad with another 4GB of Ram to make 8GB, 2x SSD running in Raid0 and a 500GB Samsung F1 Hard Drive for my data.
Then Finally a new 1GB ATI Radeon 5xxx Series Card when they get released. Sorry If some people are like huh what does that mean :P

You can't upgrade to Windows 7, you HAVE to do a fresh install so dont worry about using it on a freshly formatted drive, you'll be fine.
Just make sure you formatted it in NTFS :P

Completely forgot Windows 7 needs a fresh formatted drive. D'oh, the VRaptor is getting formatted, yet again! GRR...

all depends on the computer really, if you have a multicore processor then you will need Vista or 7 to fully utilize the multicores, Windows XP is designed for single core processors so you wont get the benefits running it on a multicore system,
Also goes for the Ram as well

I have athlon 64 x2 dual core processor, bought it some years ago now.
So whats NTFS? When you set it to boot from the CD then format/install that way? Tis the only way i know? Enlighten please. :p
Also, howcome everyone seems to know what 7 is like, If its not out yet, Unless you have dodgy/illicit versions that arent the full setup...?

Is there anything you dont have/know :panic:
Haha, Send me a copy
AlexR
28th August 2009, 20:20
lol i wish. I won't get a full licensed copy until my dads company have tested it and rolled it out onto some of their machines which will be october sort of time, even then i will get bollocked if anyone finds out i'm giving out full legal copies :( Got XP pro and fista ultimate here, of the two i'd stick with XP for everyday use, Vista is alright but can be annoying to use. 7 just seems like so much more of a progression rather than a visual interface.

NTFS is the file system used to store files. When Booting from the DVD to install just delete partition and click next. It will auto partition the HD and format in NTFS.
The full final version of Windows 7 is available just not to the public. If you are an MSDN subscriber you can get a version now.
Hope this helps :)

Well ive ordered the cheap home version, will do for what i need it for i hope!
Am on xp pro atm, albeit a somewhat 'illicit' disc, probs explain why its not reliable atall...

Home is fine for normal use. I have ultimate, media centre is pretty cool although half the time i don't bother with it. It's useful when you have a bird over to watch films and you can scroll through your collection with it all looking posh lol
Dodgy versions are often ok but some are unreliable.
Nah not bill gates, he does get £500 a day for training people though lol

Im running a QC CPU and Vista Ultimate x64, runs jsut as fast as 7 if im honest. No speed difference to me. Vista Ultimate is as stable as it can get, and i dont get problems with that either!

Im on win7, soooo much customization!!! And has some very handy tools/options. Like double clicking a .iso file and burning it instantly. Instead of messing about with other programs.
