oil temp gauge !!

hi everyone ,
right today for some reason my oil temp gauge has decided it doesnt want to work anymore ..when i turn the key the gauge does tell me the oil level but it doesnt tell me oil temp ..even after a hour driving the needle doesnt move off the bottom ..i had a search just now but doesnt seem to be much help..so if anyone has had this problem or you know how to fix it that would be great
its a mk1 vts .

Hi degsy,
Sounds like your oil temperature and temperature switch is on its way out. Before replacing the unit try removing the unit and giving it a good clean to attain a good earth. Other possibilities are that the gauge itself is knackered.

Is it not a water temp gauge? What's your water level like?
