View Full Version : Modding 'Scene' died down?

Hai.

Just kinda thinking... when i was like 14 ish and my brothers first started driving they would have loads of cruises and like generally be into alot of modifying.

Im only 17 myself but can notice less 'modified' cars on the road nowadays.

What do you think the cause is?

there are still as many modified cars.

Just they are all 'track look' cars which dont go on track instead of 18" wide arched fibreglass cars

As soon as fashion starts to change you will see people fitting leather interiors again and trying to refit carpets etc..

CraigLovelock

So basicly the modding style has changed...

Times change i guess :D

hahah yh and the fact that a propper track car stays in garage till a track day or is in bits lol

i only do about 400-800 miles a year in my xsi done a big fat 0 miles the last 7 months

but yh body kits are long gone its about smooth and std looking mods

Agreed, people are too scared to do anything too daring as people will merely say how shit it looks.
Alot of cars atm don't suit most kits imo, especially 106's lol they look shite for the most part purely as they don't sit right

PVW is a hell of a lot more entertaining than PFC

The features cars in PVW may be generally "euro" but the levels of detail and individual mods are great :D

I think the cars are all out there. Ive noticed theres alot less body kitted in your face cars but theres still lots of very very nicely done cars with custom body work.

But the assholes who hate cars/groups of young men/life are the ones who've ruined it. Every car park or possible meeting place is covered with bollards/speed bumps/cameras etc etc. Its increasingly getting harder to arrange legal cruises or even events aswell.

The big brother society looms.

jimbo06

VTRlaa
21st August 2009, 14:47
I dont know... theres always been boyracers and meets. I think its more to do with joining the EU, and councils being given too much money to spend. So they spend it on countless speedbumps and other crap.

going off the point a bit... but theyre thinking about changing all the great driving roads in wales to 50 limits.

rushy_23

Indeed they were Bic!

I kinda agree with Karlos, a lot of various modded cars around my way. A lot of people team to be into more subtle mods, you get the odd few people putting big spoilers and bumpers on cars, but around my way Ive noticed its more "new drivers" in newer cars doing this.

Pretty much every 106 or Saxo my way is decked to the floor and has an exhaust. Aka what saxp accepts as not being such a chav ;)

Modding cars is overrated imo. Im buying something completely lifeless to replace the 106.

Tommo87
21st August 2009, 15:28
There is actually alot of modified cars out there you just sometimes need to look twice as alot of it is OEM+ and very subtle.

Bearing in mind everything from debadging to full bodykits is modifying.

The scene has tunred to lowered on VTS wheels, and if you do do something different as Mr Bickerton above mention you just get slated for it... but i dont see the point in people following a crowd because they might get a bad comment about the car... do what the hell you want its your car! Sophie rant over.

100% standard for me. Well thats the plan lol.

Danr has it spot on though.

No offence to anyone but OEM+ is pretty "subtle/I has no money for mods"

agree with rushy and paul a little, although i want to make a nice little track project

a lowerd car full of people is just fail, too many speedbumps round here and i have to drive so cautiosly,

not even taking into consideration a more uncomfortable ride

id like a nice cheap daily, i think it's what ill do when im back over the summer for uni, just to be a little more practical and econimal, little 1.1 of some sort

furiomike
21st August 2009, 16:07
i think because newer small cars are generally quite good looking anyway, body kits etc are only going to make them worse. that maybe wasn't the case with old jap stuff and citroen ax's etc...

Thats what I originally intended man, a nice and simple daily. But then I thought that the GTI will spend most its like in the garage and eventually the buzz will wear thin.

Id rather a nice tidy daily that useable! I dont know, lol. You know I will change my mind come the next WM meet..

i used to go out in my car all the time to cruizes and general meets in car parks

but now because the police and the government are clamping down on such issues the only time i ever see other modded cars is if i go to car shows

plus what you got to remember is people grow up and have families so moding a car isnt a priority to them as it would be to a young 17-21 yr old

Tommo87

Tbh OEM+ isn't cheap at all, i have twin down turned exhausts on the ATR and i want better flowing but still down turned cost over a grand so no OEM+ isn't cheap.

As for soothing and debadging yes it's cheap and easy enough to do at home but is also very effective so why not.

Tommo Im refering to most of the progress threads you see, OEM+ = t cut badges, dewipered and lowering springs etc etc.

OEM+ is just a term people use dude, doesnt really mean much to me anyhow. Either your car is modded or not.

I personally dont think you need to spend sh1t loads Dan on a "trackcar" any car can be put on track, but I think what happens is people inc myself keep pushing for SPEC. As said as it sounds you want a good performing car out on track. I admit mine hasnt seen the tarmac in a year. But Im getting the ball rolling again, then will just sell it on once Ive had my fun.

i think the scenes shit these days aswell, everyone just follows like sheep now with whats acceptable anyone who has a go at being different even if it looks good its snooted down on.

the dub scenes killed most of it even more because of how snotty the dub boyz are they are all uni student boffins with no balls especially the vw scene thats what killed it its run by goody 2 shoes.

go to a cruise now and you may aswell be stood in a morrisons carpark all the cars look the same.

im guilty of the same aswell but i was one of the last modders to take to not doing much on the outside that was only due to the fact i couldnt be arsed with everyone saying this is chavy or thats chavy.

im going the bodykit root again this time with my gt4 im getting the varis kit and trd spoiler as i can get away with it on that it will even look the tits and not tacky but no dought that wont please the smoothe shaved cock crew who only wank each other off about whos had their door handles smoothed off.

varis kit all but that spoiler thats on the roof i dont like that:

I personally think that the Fast and the furious has a lot to answer for...that, along with all the cheap tat that Halfrauds sells, means that nobody wants to be associated with all the spotty 17yr old twats with lexarse lights, tribal graphics and stick on air vents on their 1litre corsas/saxos:n:

i suppose it depends on what area you live, ive noticed as you travel to different areas the scenes will change.
all because most people in that certain area will do what everyone else is doin so you get all the same lookin cars.

for example the only scenes by me are chavs, dub and the odd jap

theres no euro or rat look or nothin because they are too different people are scared to do that.

Mieran

accidents happen on track, allways nice to have a car to travel to work and back in still if something goes wrong or someone drives into you on track.

Going round the pits at brands you will find people who have spent 1-2k max on cars for fun and have nice dailys

this is true

i personnaly miss the "fiberglass" era

REALLY DO

i remember walking out of the school gates and seeing 3 kitted cars a nova dosed nova, wrc kitted mk4 escort and a kingdom kitted nova they looked awsome, and watching them drive/bounce off down the road to me they looked good now its lowered and "safe" styling nothing that stands out??

why not ?

also theres more freedom with adding then smoothing but yet less people do it..

its funny how everyones colouring there wheels.. my FAV RSturbo was royal blue white yellow alloys, and XR3i red with yellow alloys and that was in the 1990's its circles i suppose.

and with the "less" modifed cars i think its a case of subtly.. because the eyes of the law are less likly to pull a standard looking car then a heavy kitted motor.

you and merian have a very good point the kids are being bought up pussys ive got 2 little brothers they both arnt really into cars which tbh i find dissapointing ive tried and tried but they just wont take an interest ive tried buying them model cars and radio controled cars ive bought them to maccies and to a cruise etc... they just want to watch stupid cartoons and nickelodien back in my days i remember loving top gear and watching the wrc/touring cars with my dad. it would of been my dream to have an older brother with a modified car its very sad to see them not showing any interest nomatter what i do. they come home with stuff about climate change etc and are being brainwashed against all of my past times and hobbies at 10 if they had of introduced that all of a sudden id of rebeled all the more against it all but they are catching them early now so they live their lives that way and are breeding people like dogs to only think and do certain things.

once our generations done its going to go to shit the ones below are brainwashed. and onew day before supercars get banned alltogether pulling up to a nice bird in a ferrari will be unattractive because they will say your killing the north pole.:geek:

i used to always get pulled but it never made me want to give up the coppers never used to have me for anything.

thats probably changed though now the coppers are pretty harsh on even standard looking cars.

also i get in more trouble now than when i had a show car and now my cars look relativly standard.
