heya everyone thanks for reading. Its clear to me that my engine bay hasnt bin cleaned out for many years. its in a right mess so looking to pressure wash it. although ive been warned that doing this on old cars (1998) can break or blow off seals and lead to oil/radiator leeks ect. how true is this??? if true what other methods are there for taking on such a job. cheers

All you need to do is cover up the ecu, alternator, and fuse box with a sandwich bag or something and spray the whole engine bay with a de-greaser leave for 5-10 mins then blast off with a pressure washer. then go over the plastics ect with back to black or similar. you will be amazed at the results!!

just cover electrics, spray degreaser or other engine cleaner
onto engine.any stubborn or real oily bits get in there with stiff brush.
use MUCK-OFF if u want to be envoirnment friendly.

Mines filthy at the moment. Just picked up some industrial de-greaser stuff. Tried it quickly just took it off immediatley. Didnt want to go don the pressure washer route even if was to cover up electrics just in case.

cling film to cover all electrical shit.
Coat the rest in engine/machine degreaser, leave and rinse.
Spray all moving parts and electrical connections with wd40.
Apply some sort of bumper care to the plastic parts.
Apply wax to the metalwork.
Seeemples :P

you will probably need to give the degreaser a scrub with a brush.

Gunk is very effective then use WD40 to remove it, can use wire wool or a wire brush if you're careful to avoid paintwork. The just give it a good polish with a rag and away you go!
