Car went for a service yesterday and they noticed the spare was flat, they went to lower the spare down and cause the car was that low they couldnt get it out from under the car so had to jack the car up to get it out, garage rang me and told me, the spare tyre was fucked anyway and the rack was all rusty so asked if the could remove it all and jsut chuck it away which they did, and i am really happy now as when i look at the back of the car i dont see a nasty old spare and rusty rack has really tidied up the look of the back of the car.

has anyone else on here done it

Yep i ditched my spare and cage. Look much cleaner and easy to hammerite/ rust protection to go on.

Stupid really because am screwed if i puncture. Carry one of those puncture repair sealant tubes, there ok for small repairs.

I dont like the look of the spare stuck at the rear, but I prefer it to be there in case I ever have a puncture and need it!

you could put the spare in the boot?

if you clean it up, and pack it somewhere, it could look quite smart

u dont need a spair for the mot but if u do have one and its flat or doesnt have enuf tread then it will fail in the mot!

Dont need to have a spare for MOT, look at all these cars coming with a can of tyre weld new. I think if you have one it need to be usable but not sure.

I took mine of as when i had mine 17s and 18s were all the rage!

A bald or flat spair will not fail an MOT test. It can be in whatever condition it fancies and all the tester is to do is advise you that yoru spair is fucked.

Tyres on 'road wheels' only are checked as part of an MOT.

And it's the same story with the police giving 3 points for having a bald spare. They can't.
