I got this funny rubbing/squeeking noise. sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side wheel, you can feel the vibrations slightly through the floor. Now it doesn't do it at any specific time like the cluch release bearing or when turning... I recorded it whilst i was out in it see what you think and any ideas post them up. I'm really lost as i've looked around the area and can't see anything obvious. :(
HELP!

Hey, I've got exactly the same thing going on at the mo....
I'm pretty sure its something to do with the wheel arch lining catching the tyre. I've been out looking for it today, but its tricky to see how to fix.
Mine only does it at constant speed and when slowing down, as when the car slows or sits at a constant speed, the suspension settles and touches part of the lining.
Had mine fixed twice now in the last couple of years, but time to get it done again, I guess! Dont worry too much about it - mine's been doing it for months, with no side effetcs.

nah, it's not rubbing on the arch lining, i had a good look around and theres no signs of rubbing anywhere. It's really loud too sometimes, that video was done with the windows up! people look as i drive past (and not cos the car is ace!)

I've just posted a new thread about a rubbing noise... mine is doing the exact same thing!! an AA guy told me my C.V joint (Offside) is a bit dry.. but other than that he didn't know..

I checked the cv boot and they haven't moved or got any splits. I could try and take it off to have a look i suppose.
Someone else has told me to have a look at the pulley that attaches the belt to the alternator. I might take the belt off and try to give it a wiggle if theirs play in it then i'm worried it's a big job to fix :(

I really don't have a clue what to look at.. I was all out of ideas when the AA guy didn't know.. Don't really have the money for big jobs.. So I'm just hoping it will not cause any lasting harm as I have no intention of fixing it just yet, unless it's major :(

well if its anything like mine, it's quite loud and does sound like somethings deffinately not right. It's bloody annoying aswell so i want to get it fixed or at least diagnosed asap. going to nip out now and take the secondary belt off and check the alternator pulley and the pulley on the engine... will let you know what i find in a bit.

Yeah mine's bloody loud too.. almost a rumbling felt through the pedals/floor too.. not nice at all :( It's got to be a spinning part as it seems to only happen with mine during a certain rpm range I believe..
Started to worry my friends earlier when I was driving them about.. The usual jokes.. "Are we going to die?!"

Yeah, when we bought the car it did it all the way back up the motorway but then stopped... 6 months down the line after doing nothing to it recently, it's started again!
I'm really stumped... got the rest of the week off work now though so i'm praying for some sunshine so i can at least get my new rear beam on!

Right, i've checked the cv boots, the passenger side one has a small split so i've put a load of grease back in and taped it up to see if that cured it... it didn't. I knew it wouldn't as the noise is coming from the drivers side. The driveshafts look in good nick woth no play in the intermediate bearing, all the nuts and bolts on the suspension, brakes and everything else are tight and it's not rubbing on anything. I really don't know what it could be so i'm close to just taking it in to a garage and have them look at it.
I wanted to just bump this to see if anyone had any last minute ideas before it goes to the money pit that are local garages!
Help?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry mate, only just checked on here.. I still have no idea other than the clutch thrust bearing.. which was an AA engineers idea, based upon my description as I couldn't replicate the problem.
What did they say at the garage?

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
turned out to be the intermediate bearing on the drivers side driveshaft!
I finally got around to going down to my cousins garage (Whitley Garage (http://www.whitleygarage.co.uk/) in kempston, bedford) got it on the lift and had a rummage around and found the bearing to be wearing quite badly... plus we found that the cv joints were on their way so we replaced the pair and now the car dosn't make the noise any more. :)

That's kind of a relief.. at least I have some idea what it is now!!
Thankfully mine is only a very rare occurrence at the moment, seems worse in the summer and in the warmth..
Sorry to be cheeky, but may I ask how much this cost you to get done? My Nearside CV Joint is only about 8 months old, but the Offside joint and the driveshaft bearing.. how much did it cost you?
Cheers, Dan

I went and got the shafts from europarts (theirs a depot near me) they cost me £60 a side, i also replaced the track rod ends too, they cost me about £15 each. I fitted them myself as i was going down to visit my cousin who works at his dads garage. ;)
I went and used their ramps to make it easier but it would be really simple to do your self. Their are a few bits of info on here about how to do it. it only took about an hour and a half... and that was with a bit of gabbing! I would imagine a garage would charge you from a hundred to two hundred quid to fit them depending on where you went so your looking at a bit of money but nothing too major.

This sounds like what has happened to mine can you not get the bearing seperate or is it part of the shaft?

I think it's all one part... at least if you change the whole thing you know it's been done and it's not going to be playing on your mind. That's the way i look at it.
