if that light is flashing it means it's not read the chip in your key, take the key out of the ignition leave it a second then put it back in and turn it till all your lights come on but the starter doesn't go and leave it for a few seconds and see if the imobiliser light goes out, then try and start it.

Mine does it sometimes if i'm too fast at putting the key in and starting her up

I had exactly this problem last month. You could try removing the fuse which runs the central locking and some other bits and pieces, and then starting the car. Worked for me.

If that works, then try disconnecting the battery for 3 hours, to let the ECU reset, then re-connect the battery and put the fuse back. This is exactly what I did and now it all works fine.

transponder is dead... i think you have to get in touch with citroen for a new one OR have your ecu unlocked? I may be wrong on the cure but it edffo sounds like the transponder is dead

transponder as in key??? or the box behind fusebox??
cheers for the quick reply

in the key theres a little chip (like in a pet) that has a code on it. if the thing is saying it can't see the code the chances are that it's broken or the box in the car is broken, I'd run it over to citroen or see if anyone on here knows more about them.

citroen can find out which bit is broke by recoding another key to work in your car. If that doesnt work then it must be the car bit thats knackered.

There may be someone on here that can do that for you or if you have a spare set of keys you could try them... if they don't work, you'll need the bit behind the fuse box replacing.

hope that makes sense?

wt i was thinking of doing is taking the box off another car and use the key chip it is coded to. wud this work????

o yh no way!! small world! lol feel free to come and have a look if u want!! lol

well the light "should" go out but obviously the key wouldn't turn as the key itself would be differant, this also wouldn't prove which bit is broke but would show that either the key transpoder OR the reciver box is the culprit. I think though that doing this would also lock your ecu as it thinks it's had them swaped to steal it, you'd have to swap the ecu as well... and even then i think that it may still lock up something... also then your mate can't start his/her car!

I think it's best to see if you can get it towed to a citroen place or see if they can come out to you... worth an ask if nothing else, they may give you some more ideas to try before shelling out on them.

is the key code only programed to the imobilliser box or is it programed in the ecu aswell??

I think they're all linked somehow so the ecu knows when a differant immobiliser box has been fitted and locks up.

I don't think that link is going to help you because your immobiliser box is dead. I think you need to get a new one and get shitroen to recode it for you.

That unlock procedure is relying on your car starting but it isn't. If your mate has the same plug engine as yours you could try swapping the ecu and immobiliser box over then use YOUR key to turn the barrel but hold your mates key near the reciever ring so it picks up his chip... at least your car will start then... oh but don't blame me if it all locks up :( lol

provided its an immobliser fault thats stopping it from starting yeah.

I can unlock your ecu for you depending on what year vtr

personally i don't think it would as your immobiliser isn't seeing the key transponder, Unless an unlocked ecu dissables your imobiliser which i don't think it does. I think you need a new immobiliser box and get it coded to your key.

But i don't know a great deal about these systems so there may be someone out there that will either confirm what i've ssaid or put me right.

Unlocking the ecu disables the immobliser yes.

njonesy17- thats an mp7.2, i can remove the immobilisers off that ecu for you so if the fault is being caused by a broken transponder, key, pickup ring etc it will all be bypassed

ryanmt, can you reprogram the immobilizers to a new keyfob on the old single button infra-red remotes?

ryanmt
3rd September 2009, 13:49
the IR remotes isnt actually part of the immobliser system iirc. Its just RCL. The controller for it is in the roof.

The immobliser is a keypad code or a chip inside the key. I dont code to new keys no, just unlock them as i can do that via post :)

Alanapone

ah right, so am i best then getting a new fob and matching reciever and swapping them in or would this also lock up the imobiliser and ecu?

Soz for the thread hijack

ryanmt

no it wont lock anything out matey and yes thats what ide do... its only a basic system, was fitted to the AX orginally. A similar if not the same unit can be found in 306's xanitas etc so have a poke around the scrapyards :)
