My exhaust has broken off right where the cat connects to the centre pipe, seems like the end of the cat has rusted off. Is there a chance you can simple cut off the old connection and weld on a new one? Or is it a new cat jobby?
thanks

this happened to me so i took it to a mate who is a welder but you cant weld on the cat unfortunately so its a new cat jobby ! i got one from pma with a fitting kit, i think it was about 80 quid but dont quote me on that

I assume that the exhaust has broken away at the flange. It all depends really on the condition of the rest of the CAT. Look especially arond the CAT sensor and where the bracket on the exhaust attatches to the gearbox or engine as these are the areas prone to failure and corrosion before deciding if its worth repairing.

Its where the cat connects to the center section using a clamp. The rest of the cat looks to be fine, even so it can just be a quick fix until i'm able to get it to a garage weekend

As person 22 stated, I dont think you can weld directly on the CAT itself. However if it is at the flange and the rest of the CAT is o.k I dont think you will have any problems.

Mines just gone today - 2 weeks after doing the backbox and having to cut the original cat centre pipe to fit a repair pipe. Started blowing a day or so back, got louder and louder, then this evening, completely snapped off, on the weld joint at the front of the cat itself, even for a 1.1, was LOUD, and cat almost dragging on the road!
Popped up to CES and got a new cat for £55 inc VAT, connects frontpipe to backbox, and am fitting it tomorrow. If you want a really loud exhaust, just take the pipe off before the cat - guaranteed to get you stared at lol (and deafen you)!
