I was thinking... If you fitted a newer engine, say one from a new c2 or a 5* plate vts into an older MK1 vtr, When you notified the dvla of the change would you also qualify for cheaper tax due to the emmisions being lower?
Just wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone know if this would be the case.
Before i get grief aswell... I did search for it but couldn't find anything.
Please disscus...

Are you sure that its not the other way round
My Tax being pre 2000 is cheaper than the later mk2 models (1.6 16v engine)

I don't know how much the tax is on the newer cars but our vtr on an r plate is £190 a year to tax, thought that if you get lower emmisions from a newer vtr/s then it may be worth doing.

all depends on the emissions,
if you fit an engine which produces lower emissions,
and change the V5 logbook to show this then it would lower your tax band,
like fitting a phase VTR engine rather than a phase 1 VTR engine it is cheaper,
as they produce less emissions.

thats what i was thinking along the lines of doing... i suppose i'd have to get the emissions data from citroen for the mk1 and mk2 engines and see if they're any different.

so if i put my 1300 bike engine in my car, will i only have to pay my 30 odd bucks for a years worth of tax, and have ashit load more power?
...
now this gets interesting.

yupp!,
recent changes meant that road tax is based solely upon emissions in order to persuade people to buy more economical cars and help out the environment,
1.5 diesel clio 35 quid a year, because it's nice and clean from the exhaust,
whereas a big gas guzzling 4x4 will rape you.
the 98 bhp vtr engine fitted to the phase 2, cat in the manifold is cheaper to tax than the 90bhp phase 1 cat under car despite being more powerful due to it putting out less emissions,
so trusting that you do the right thing and tell the dvla of any engine transplant you do, next time you go to tax the car it will be possibley a different price, as it is based on the engine and not the car.

what powers your busa lump putting out though? don't forget it's waaay faster in a bike cos theres less metal to drag about.... Would be awesome though.
so i'm right in thinking that doing a transplant from my 90hp vtr lump to a newer vts/c2 lump would save me a few quid... i think i'd best ring the dvla tomorrow and find out for sure how much i'd save as if i only save a tenner a year it ain't really worth it.

Good luck with that. Get your finger prepped for all those press 1 for this, press 2 for that or hold the line for 20 minutes to speak to a numpty.

suspect you may have to produce an sva certificate and loads of data to get the required co2 emissons data for dvla doubt its as simple as putting later lower emission engine in or everyone would be claiming to have done so
like my new porsche cayenne took the large engine out and fitted a prius lump in so can i have my free tax mr dvla

i imagine when telling the dvla all you will really need to do is quote the engine number and possibley the reg of the vehicle thew engine came from,
so they know it isn't stolen,
whether or not you would need a certificate or test or anything i don#t know,
unlikely,
ask someone that has convertered an R to an S they would know.
