Just a warning to all, check the tread of your tyres...

"A triple death of this nature is somewhat unusual. One would hope maybe some lesson will be learned," the coroner added.

To be fair it doesn't sound like he was driving responsibly. If it's wet then you need to be driving slowly. If you're driving fast enough to fishtail or aquaplane then you're not driving to the conditions.
Obviously it's impossible to account for all eventualities.
No doubt if the car had full tread on the tyres it would have been a different outcome.
A combination of poor experience, car condition and circumstances.

Poor guy in the rover coming the other way :(

Dont drive like a twat and maintain your car then.

Apart from the other motorists faults.

Im thinking along the same lines as you a lack of inexperince and poor car maintance id a big factor in the crash. to me it souned like he overtook then pulled in and the car started sliding and he couldnt control it.

really sad that it happened

Some people don't understand the responsibilty a driving license has. General car maintance is a must, the condition of the tyres is of major importance and should never be overlooked. Even when driving within the road conditions worn tyres well may the car react in a different way.

some of you shouldnt be so worried about saxos as a whole... i know there only like 2 stars or summin but overall the ammount of accidnts ppl have in them to deaths is very small... its like me and bikes .... the scale of deaths to accidents is very high... part reason why i`m getting a car as riding on the road has just become such a massive liablity so al be goin back to track days.

Just drive really slowly in the wet. It'll make you appreciate the sunny weather (when it happens) more. :)

9th September 2009, 15:03
its a shame when things like this happens but as a few of you have said drive responsibly. it was pishing of rain last week here and i drove 50 - 60 all the way up to work and i done this for a week, i survived and i also made 440 miles to a full tank so thats always a bonus lol

the thing is the guy was only 18, probably inexperienced and had only owned the saxo for 2 weeks so obviously was not in full understanding of the car, didnt help the fact that the guys tires were bald aswell

A Micra is just as much as a death trap. Tbh most small cars aren't going to fair well in a crash.

I'm getting new tyres tomorrow :y:

But no disrespect to the lad that died but I can't imagine he was the safest driver around. Says in the story he overtook a van at speed just before losing control? Probably not the best idea in very wet conditions even with good tyres. And imo lexus lights are a sign of a badly driven car... Stereotype ftw...

if you lose control in any car this sort of thing can happen, you cant blame his deaths on being because he was in a saxo.you just need to drive within your limits, the cars limits and the weathers limits, and thats something you learn the longer your driving. cant help but feel for the old fella and his family

Completely agree mate. This is why the people that post "speeding is fine if you can see far enough ahead of you!" piss me off... Because this story proves that when you fuck up it's not just you that gets killed/injured.

bfc2dabone
9th September 2009, 19:02
your right mate speed does kill, but id be a lair if a said i never went over the limit, and yeah it does always seem to involve someone else getting hurt or killed, just loke drink drivers

claff
9th September 2009, 20:02
grip level of tyres drops off massively once you get below 2mm... the 1.6mm limit is really extreme, in a way i think its a bad law because people think they'll be fine as long as its legal when really tyres with 1.6-2mm of tread are death traps in the wet. dont know how many times ive commented on low tread on someones tyres and theyve said "oh but its over the limit" as if that makes it okay.

its the problem with making millions of laws, people will think that as long as theyre within the law then its safe (which ofc is very bad) which forces them to make more laws. its a neverending cycle

death trap...... he does have a point they are really no good for crashes! you dont have to be driving like an idiot, another person could be and collide into you or sumthing then theres no chance saxos are very week and light for e.g thats why you get high insurence!

thats another mother who will not have a son, RIP to all involved, sad needless to say whatever caused the accident which sounds like the saxo driver. I crashed mine 7 days after passing coincidently on a wet road/ coming back home 4 in the morning. either way went flipping down the road at 50, i cant stress how relieved i was realizing no one else was involved. (i flipped across the other side of the road). also Lost a friend the night after in another accident, again in the wet where the car full crashed into the tree's, luckily 3 survived. wet weather is a real danger to new drivers who don't know how the car can react... and then with bald tyres. accident waiting to happen
