Hi all, I'm at a loose end and I need to some real sound advice.
I had a collegeue at work selling a VTS, he needed a quick sale, the only trouble was the alternator had caught fire and he didn't have the money to get a new one, he even told us his mechanic mate had checked it and all that was needed was a new alternator....all seemed genuine so my bro in law bought it.
1 - When the car was home we fitted the new alternator (we made sure we got the right one by checking and double checking the number on the alternator). We started the car and the battery light came on, no power steering, no heaters either. The wiring by the connector had been damaged by the fire so we cut off the burnt area and replaced the wires but still no good.
2 - We bought a new battery too and checked the charge to it and it was only receiving 12v. We've read loads about the ignition switch, so much so that we even created the loop on the 2 brown wires and it still didn't work.
3 - The car was then taken to a Saxo specialist who plugged in the ECU and no faults were returned. The chap has said he doesn't think its the ignition switch, he's more concerned that its something to do with a 'Dashboard dimplex, duplex???
The car has to be charged every night to keep it useable but after a few starts the battery runs very low and a few times it's conked out is awkward places.
Please guys I really need some help, I feel guilty as hell recommending the car to my bro in law, he's a sound bloke and the previous owner has washed his hands of the problem.
Any help is much appreciated.
