View Full Version : No Fuel & No Spark - Help!

Hi folks
Basically I have tried to save a Mk1 VTR from the scrappies, I bought it without an engine or gearbox therefore it has never run in my ownership.
Everything is now back together and it turns over but the fuel pump doesn't run and there's no spark. The immobiliser light was flashing so I had the ECU unlocked - no difference. I have changed the ECU/fuel pump relay and no difference. I have pressed the fuel cut off button, just in case. The fuel pump runs with 12V across it OK. I have now disconnected the immobiliser box. The relay clicks in when the ignition is turned on so that seems to be getting power from the ignition switch.
The next thing is to check the TDC sensor but I'm not sure if that would stop the fuel pump from running. Anyone else got any ideas?
However there are two plugs with nowhere to go in the engine bay (not on the engine loom though!) and just want to check they wouldn't be related to my problem, in particular the brown one by the fuse box. I can't post attachments but this link shows the piccies:-

Also the small fuse box by the servo has one fuse missing but no wire going to it so I assume it never had one, can someone check on there car please? It's the 20A fuse second back from the bulkhead.
I'm running out of ideas so any help would be appreciated. It's the Bosch MP5.2 system.
Thanks
Alan

Removed the TDC sensor, seems OK, assuming it's just a flat face on the end. Anyone have any ideas as to whether the plug in the following thread should be attached to anything:-

Thanks for the reply. I have sent the ECU back for testing...hopefully it's as simple as that!:wall:

Good work fella! :y:
Yep they're the plugs I've got going nowhere too, so at least that puts my mind at rest that I don't have anything missing. Superb information, thanks for responding to my plea for help buddy!

Just received call from ECU company and......the ECU is still unlocked and is functioning perfectly
There was a good reason this car was heading for the scrappers...

Thanks for the post. Already been there with the fuses and relays, the fuel pump runs with 12V across it and the engine turns over fine.
Cheers anyway.

i had this problem on a old 1.1i no fuel and no spark and car was of the road for a week. sometimes it was starting then sudenly cutting out and then again no fuel and no spark. turned out to be the sensor on the gearbox tht had come slack and if one of the sensors failed then it would basicaly imobilise the car by telling the ecu to stop sending fuel and spark. so check all sensors and clean them up. this maybe the problem something so simple can make it all stop workin.

Thanks guys for the replies. I have taken the crank sensor out and it looks OK. But I might get another one just in case it's something inside that's knackered.
I think you could be right about the sensors, I'll have to start changing them out...joy.
cheers

Just to let you know that I have changed everything that the wiring loom connects to just to check if it got it going...and it didn't.
However I invested in a Haynes manual and it provided a startlingly easy solve....the fuel injection fuse was missing - doh! I looked at the fuse box and saw a symmetrical line of fuses on either side BUT there is in fact a fuse that sits at the top and I completely missed it - bugger!
I'm not sure if it would have stopped the immobiliser light from flashing so the ECU might have needed unlocking anyway...maybe.
Anyway it's sorted. Just the power steering pump not working (heater blower works) and a squealing (either water pump or idler pulley) to sort. And some part-worn tyres. And MOT.
Cheers guys.
