connection issues

i have played my xbox on live at home for a year or so now.

just moved into a student house and have got the internet with virginmeadia on a cable connection. This is different to home as that is adsl.

Have set up a wireless router etc and have got mutliple laptops working on the network fine, just connect to the network and type in the passkey.

The xbox however doesnt seem to work... i dont remember having this trouble at home when i set it up but it was ages ago.

I connect to the network and type in the passkey, then test connection

it goes green on connecting to the network but on the 'dots' to the internet it fails saying something about the settings... might have been the isp or something else.

then says about xbox having standard ones and then about entering them manually.

do i need to find these settings from virgin? can i find them from my laptop?

any help greatly appreciated. Havent had time to search the internet yet so if its a quick fix and i sound stupid then i do appologise :p

I havent had any problems. I have the standard wireless netgear router that came with VirginMedia. 2 Xbox 360's in the house. My brothers is on the wireless adaptor you can get from game shop. Had o problems connecting up.

My Xbox is connected though my laptop's eathanet port and then my laptop is connected to the wireless router. All you have to do it bridge the eathernet connection and the wireless connection on your laptop

well i have the wireless adaptor with the xbox. it connects to the router having entered the passkey but cant make the connection with the internet and therefore xboxlive.

it seems to be something with the settings on the xbox to do with various numbers? isp?

Are you sure it hasnt stored manual addresses on your xbox or visa versa, your home ADSL was DHCP and this new router only uses designated IP's?

What's your exact setup?

Cable > Virgin Modem > Router > Xbox?
Cable > Virgin Modem/Router > Xbox?
