My gf moved into halls yesterday and was told that there is parking available for students so i could visit any time. Some woman on reception has now told her that permits arnt issued to students even tho her halls has got 40ish spaces marked out below it. If this is now true i have no idea on the best place to park, her halls are 5 min walk from Clarence pier. The parking is free from 6pm till 8am, but then i had to pay £5 to stay till 12pm, i don't know Portsmouth at all really so any advice on best place to park will be very appreciated.

Ring and ask for someone whos knows what there talking about =] or wait a week or so once everyone has moved in. My gfs uni said that they were for special cases only (e.g. if your a family members second carer etc) but a week later and they were offering permits for £40 a year in a secure monitored car park =]

Portsmouth is a really compact city. i lived there for a year.
If you park in a non permited area (north of albert road) you will only be a 15min walk to halls.
I lived in stansted road and never took a taxi anywhere.
