Hi folks.

A good friend of mine has just bought a brand new Volvo S40 T5. Lovely car. It's white, and looks great. What products, such as polish and wax would you recommend. Keep it to products you can buy from the likes of Halfords...

Cheers!! :)

Apparently it's Ice White, and NON-metallic. If that helps? Hehe.

halfrauds sell meguiards gold class shampoo, combined with a megs microfibre wash mitt and a couple of decent microfibre drying towels (not from halfrauds) it'll be a good start

a new car shouldnt need polish? but although im not a fan, the meguiars 3 step seems to be the common choice for hand polishers

im not sure what kind of wax is sold by halfruads

of course, this is more expensive and no where near as good as what can be bought from a decent shop :)

Should he be looking for special polishes / waxes due to the colour of the paint?

Dodo juice color specific wax's are awesome, they are a bit expensive but worth it if he wanted a colour specific wax.
Diamond white if he wanted hard wax: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/dodo-juice/dodo-juice-diamond-white/prod_405.html
Or Light Fantastic if he wants soft wax: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/dodo-juice/dodo-juice-light-fantastic/prod_400.html
