A friend of mine has just bought a starlet glanza V and apparently he seems to think its much faster than my VTS. although they have 15bhp more on high boost they don't seem to be much quicker. does anybody know if there is much difference between these cars?

Glanza will be quicker down a dual carriageway.
If it involves proper driving with corners the glanza will get fucked.

15bhp is probably easier to get out of a VTS than a glanza, if i remember right the block is only a 1.3L so at top end it may not be.

What about the head then?
BHP dosent mean everything. 15bhp between 2 cars dosent mean it will be faster at all.

^^ i agree to many people get hung up on bhp. same with 0 - 100 times. there is alot more to take into account like gear ratios, torque, weight and importantly driver. my 2c anyway

put it this way at bedford autodrome on monday. my vts fucked 2 glanza's one was running 160+bhp the other was standard. they are quite heavy, handle shit, and have a crap gearbox.
my vts engine is 7000miles old and has the usual breathing mods and the car is stripped.
even down the 1km straight both the glanza didnt pull away. and had to brake really early and were much slower through the chicane than me.

i dunno though, my mate had a starlet 2.0 turbo. but that had been sent away to be tuned and i think it had another engine in coz i didnt think they did a 2.0 turbo version. but that thing was stupid fast! scary at times!

lol. It has something called a turbo, which is ALOT easyer to get power out of than NA.

Never heard of a Starlet with a 2L Turbo engine tbh. You sure thats right?
And as Ry said, its very easy to get more BHP out of a Glanza than a VTS

You sure it wasnt one of those Mazda 323 things? Old school 2.0 turbo 4wd;

Look quite similar to the Starlets in the metal

i would love a 323, but they only made like 500 of them, as rare as hens teeth :/

A mate of mines got one, its pretty fookin rapid. Spends more time off the road than my saxo though which is quite an achievement. Eats gearboxes lol

on high boost
i think it's clear whos engine wont last long
theyre quick as shit if tuned properly
sadly most arent, and like your friend "just turned the boost up"

Everyone i've come across has been bluddy rapid! Not something i'd mess with tbh, although most the ones around aren't standard either.

there is a 2litre turbo on the owners club I'm a part of. It's from an mr2 though. Fair bit of work it seems but will be stupidly powerful.
My starbo would never keep up I would imagine, in a straight anyway, can't imagine what it's like round the corners.

My mate has a 285bhp Glanza, this was achieved with probably the same cost of making a vts run about 170bhp.
and its stupidly cheap for him to maintain as most of the parts he has used come as standard on scoobies.

TDO4 turbo, really common conversion on Starlets. My cousin has had 2 EP82s both running 150-160bhp, one on the standard turbo. Both seriously quick.

To cut a long story short:
Straight line Performance- Glanza
Handling- VTS
Being turbocharged, the Glanza is easier to extract more power out of. As standard there isn't much in it between that and a VTS.

correct! It's a monster, but can hardly put any power down through first and second in the dry, let alone the wet. Still, sounds awesome with his screamer pipe, and goes like shite off a shovel! only up to about 120 though due to the tiny gearbox

yeah he has got the lsd too but the car just cannot handle it, goes through driveshafts faster than he can fill up the car with juice, and thats pretty f*cking often!

like i said, it was a jap import and i think it had a different engine in.
and by the way the 323 was only a 1600 turbo, even in group A rally form.
whether the guy who had the starlet was lying or not i dunno. but it was rapid, and he had no need to lie i have known him for ages.

Its some form of Mazdarg 3something or other hes got, to be fair it doesnt look quite like that but the back end is almost identical to a starlet and it is a 2.0
