a lad at work has a 1.4 mg zr and one of my mates has the 1.8 version another has the zs saloon 1.8. they are quite cheap at the moment too. MG are still going even tho rover are not, you still get ur warranty too, a mate got a 54 plate 1.4 zr last month and its still got all the warranty etc smileys/smiley2.gif
the 1.8 zr have vvti and 160bhp.

yer the 1.8 160 are sweet, but did a quick insurance quote and 4k+ for FC insurance is beyond a joke looks as though it will have to be the 1.4, but that still ahs 105BHP if im not mistaken

my mates red 1.8 zr is nice, its had a canny bit done to it too, really quick, 18s, leather, rear discs etc. sounds so nice too smileys/smiley4.gif

I recon a 3dr in blue, 18's , lowered, zaust. possibly a Mynheer kit on it aswell, not a lot! lol smileys/smiley2.gif
Steve.
2nd February 2006, 00:30
John - went through confused.com who search all the leading ppl etc and about £4017 was the cheapest with £600 excess for the 1.8VVTI smileys/smiley19.gif
Mynheer?! "not in my life you dirty bastard" lol too OTT to me, but they all come with half leather recaro's etc... pretty nice, and yer 17/18's lowered would suit it down to the ground
1.4 would be good enough for me tho, anyone know how quick they are? like 0-60 etc..?

I quite like the ZRs but I wouldn't get the 1.4 as its quite slow. I had a test drive of one when my gf was looking at buying a ZR and it felt quite sluggish.

i like em, im thinking of getting the 160 one now that they are so cheap.
my mate has a 1.4 and its pretty nippy for an engine that size. they handle pretty good to i'm told.
Steve.
2nd February 2006, 01:33
yer thats what im hoping the 1.4 to be - pretty nippy. well it does have 105BHP which is higher than many 1.4's around, more than the VTR aswell. smileys/smiley20.gif
but insurance is the only reason i cant get a 1.8VVTi
Or get a VTR instead......... the decisions smileys/smiley5.gif

I didn't feel the 1.4 was as quick as my 1.4 saxo. It didn't have the same pull when accelerating, but thats prob down to it being heavier.
Steve.
2nd February 2006, 01:59
ill have to test dirve some and see i suppose, but its british and looks laot mroe comfy etc... than the saxo and spacious is the word, not heavier smileys/smiley17.gif

2nd February 2006, 02:18
the 1.4 zr should easily be quicker than a 1.4 saxo.
but i would def go for the 1.8 tho. making sure that its the 160 bhp rather than the 120! lol
Steve.
2nd February 2006, 02:21
mike - 4k insurance tho on a 160BHP!! wel that was on the web tho smileys/smiley17.gif

Felt slower in the first couple of gears. Probably is quicker at higher speeds but definetly didn't feel as strong in the first couple of gears.

ah fair enough. Thats still hella high though. The car is only worth about £5K.

how quick / good are the 1.8zr's ? 160 bhp version, iv seen some that say "160" @ back, are those the 1.8 zr's ?? i'v always liked the looks of them, very smart, but due to rover being bust, a major put off.

to be honest i really dont see why you want such a powerfull car at your age. im coming up 19 soon and have a vtr. i find thats quick enough for me atm. i think you'll stand a good chance in pranging it with the zr because it will have too much power thats why the insurance is so high. go for a vtr mate good nippy cars and only group 7 insurance. its up to you at the end of the day fella smileys/smiley2.gif

There is not much different between the 1.4 and the 1.8 my mate used to have one, he test drove both the 1.4 and the 1.8 and he said the 1.4 felt quicker and decided to go for that one, also he did beat a 1.8 version. YOu can get the 1.4 that looks the same as the 1.8 as standard i think they are great cars and now they have gone bust you can get some good deals. You can always get parts for the car just not from rover which to be honest as any dealer is over priced anyway. I would go for one mate you can make them look very nice by doing a few little modds!!
Thats my oppinion anyway! smileys/smiley14.gif

very true! hey i own an original then smileys/smiley17.gif but i think they can look really nice with few subtle mods
You can get the 1.4 ZR+ which has 120BHP i found out, but i think are quite rare am i right?
mike_obuk
3rd February 2006, 02:02
i think the ZR + is the 105 bhp one, then you get the 1.8 which comes in either 120 or 160 bhp.

the 1.8 would kill a 1.4. i know this as two of my mates have them, one has the 1.4 and the one has a 1.8 and the differenece is one hell of a lot mate. it does have 55bhp more. the 1.4 looks different too, not as good, with smaller wheels, single exit zorst and the interior isnt as good! but the lad i know that had one crashed it whilst trying to show his new girlfrind that he could drive it with the legs crossed. Well, in short, he couldnt and hit a wall! oh well! lol smileys/smiley16.gif smileys/smiley8.gif
iv only dirven the 1.8 not the 1.4 but its much faster than my vtr smileys/sad.gif
but i wouldnt get the 1.4 if you cant afford the 1.8 , get something else smileys/smiley4.gif
thats my opinion smileys/smiley17.gif

My mate must of had the extra's then cause he had the half leather, and twin exhaust put on with 17" wheels!! His was the ZR+ and was very quick for a 1.4! the 1.8 just dont seem that quick for what they are! Just my opinion
