Car running like shit, found out its coilpack. Citroen want £250+ for one, garage can get universal one for £140. Seen on ebay some for around the £70 mark or i could go scrap yard and get one for maybe £30-40...
Is there much point going scrap yard because coilpack is a common issue and no guarantee it'll work, or for how long. As do i trust universal ebay jobbys??

Oooo saying that do they all fit? Or will i need exact same one? as mine looks like the one for £140 :(

I've had loads of stuff from there and they are very good.
I just hope yours aint the £137 one - would be sods law if it is, but valeo are a good brand and easy enough to fit yourself.

They seem to be based on the colour of connector ie black or grey, so enlarge all the notes to see which is which - if still in doubt, give them a bell and let them have your reg no, they are very helpful, and they will deliver free if its over £50.

Yup seems like mine is the £140 :( so sure none of the others will fit? really can't afford that right now but need the car on the road

Ah well thats a shit, seems you have the NFX engine then.
I'd try the scrappies, but it aint guaranteed that you will find one the same as yours.
Sorry about that, I've looked at online automotive and ignition parts etc and they are all around the £120 - £140 mark for that particular coil, so you really aint gonna get much cheaper unless you go second hand.
Have a look through these parts and see if the £80 one is like yours:

Thats one place. Have taken the coilpack off and put the part number in. Both look exactly the same with same part numbers but one is £40 more...
Put same number in ebay and seen a few on there but not sure if i should risk ebay?

Well i've just received the new coilpack for the car, fitted it and.... NOPE! Still exactly the same! Stupid thing!!!!!
So how do i go about things now? Is there something i can do about the "mis-diagnosis" by the garage? Since its cost me £100 of something i did not need. Maybe get the car retested with the new coilpack and see if that comes up with a fault and then send back for exchange?

Valeo will be the original manufacturer of the stock part. Any of the others listed on Euro carparts that are for a 99-03 VTS will fit though mate, they are just different brands manufacturing the same part.

Cheers, the one i got wasn't valeo anyways but as you say should work but car is still running the same. Guess i'm going to have to go to garage and see what they say :(

I went to a scrap yard today to get a new coil pack and they charged me £10, did fuck all to my car so im hoping it was a faulty one and nothing serious, changed spark plugs and they didn't do nothing either.

Descibe the symptoms of the car running badly again mate, some folks might be able to have a stab at other causes before you go though the garage bills route.

Its running REALLY lumpy, blatantly on 3 cylinders. Whole car shakes quite badly like its going to stall but idle seems to be stable. When driving its pretty loud and goes absolutely nowhere.
Its had a full service and a few sensors that flagged up on diags and also now this coilpack. Only thing i can think of now is something to do with fueling. Its recently had new fuel pump though so might be injectors but bugger knows if i know how to test those! haha

well i fitted the coil pack but now there is no spark. must be the wrong type but i cant see how. plus i fitted a new map sensor before the coil pack but that made no difference:wall::wall:

the garage seem to think it could be the ecu, but they are gonna check everything over and let me know. what would the main issues be with putting on a 2nd hand ecu?

17th November 2009, 14:08
i seem to be having the exact same problems as you but well for a um ford lol that was after me changing oil/filter/spark/plugs hope you can find a solution so it can give me some ideas on mine
steking25
17th November 2009, 14:32
if it is the ecu then i think the problems would be the same whatever the car make......

17th November 2009, 14:35
would resetting the ecu not make a difference

17th November 2009, 14:40
i tried that with mine (well i disconnected the battery for a while :) but didnt make any difference. dunno if there is another way of doing it though. it might be worth a try with yours anyway :)

17th November 2009, 14:52
yeah i will certainly try it when i get back to see if it does anything although i cant see it working. I am getting a shot of a fluke view from work tonight so i can test the leads while they are connected to the plugs to see if there is a problem with the coil pack will let you know, since you are experiancing the same probs as me lol
