Hi - just had new front brake pads fitted about a week ago, and I've noticed a small kind of burning smell sometimes when I'm driving, but not very often. I've literally just got back from a short drive (10miles ish) and I could smell it on the way back a little, so as soon as I got into the drive, I took a quick sniff of the front 2 wheels. Offside one is fine, and I could just smell the tyre rubber (new tyres too :D), but when I got round to the nearside on I could feel the head coming off it, and it smelt of burning..

I had been told that it looked like that pad was binding a bit, but thought it wouldnt matter too much, as I drive it pretty much every day so it would free up - but it appears that it hasnt! Is there anything I can do to stop it doing it, or is it just something that happpens with new pads and will wear in over time? And should I be concerned?

Thanks :)

there is a edit button bud so you dont have to do a seperate post lol,
sounds like you piston is sticking. best thing to do is to take the pads out and check the rummer seals around the pistion. if they are split water may have got in causing rust therefor casing it to stick. you can try free it up buy pushing the piston in and out a couple of times and spraying a wd40 on it (worked on mine) and if that fails and its still catching a new calliper my be needed

Yeah, I know about the edit button - I just don't have access to it on my posts! I'm waiting till I get to 100 posts to see if it appears ;)

I might have to take it to a garage to look at that.. I don't have the tools to take a wheel off, and my driveway is on a proper slope :D

Is it something to be concerned about, or it just going to generate heat and wear the pad down quicker?

id look to grease up the sliders in the caliper - as sound like they are stuck. Or the piston on the caliper is 'sticky'

I wouldn't run it too much like this as the disc will warp if too hot, meaning you'll need a new disc

yes as said either the sliders in the caliper are sticky/seized or the piston
