All I can say is wow, huge improvement. It is much more streamline and generally pisses all over Vista, my cpu is falling asleep with this new software and not even breaking a sweat. To me the hype is well lived!

I love it, admitidly took a very long time to install for the speed of everything else it is very forgivable. I got the ultimate version off a certain site *shifty eyes* and it is the only microsoft ultimate product that doesn't demand a nuclear processor to make it work lol.

I haven't installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard on my MacBook yet but when I have it will be good to compare the two.

Gotta love all the Vista bashing tbh, even though it blew XP away which is showing its age now.
Vista's only problem was drivers for hardware and people slagging it off when they never gave it a chance/never even tried it :n:

How did it out perform anything its a resource hog. yeah it might be better if you have 16gb of ram & a setup worth over 5k lets not even mention that obtaining drivers that work for anything is a nightmare. I love how it comes pre-installed on pretty much every budget low range laptop aswel...

LOL.
Its called Superfetch, will be slow for the first few days until it works out what programs you use most so it can cache them so they open up uber quick.
Or you do what I did and turn all that crap off = much quicker than XP in everyway.

Vista was more like BetaVista. It was a Memory Hog, half the software & hardware never worked on it & above all the Hog took No less than 1GB to run the stupid thing. To say it blew XP away  Thats a CraZzZzZy Statement to make.

If anything, it sped up the innovation of technology. If vista wasn't so demanding of power, then we wouldn't buy the power required and it'd take alot longer before we had the powerful computers we have today.

VISTA blew XP away what are you basing that facts on. majority of work places still use XP and i still use XP at home i wouldnt even touch vista and i certainly wont be touching windows 7 until the first service pack comes out. everyone knows what vista was like. SHIT. sorry for the language but it is. the backwards compatability with certain or should say most applications out is shit. the constant use of processor even though you arent doing anything lol the list goes on and on about vista, NOW XP there is an OS yeah sure its windows and am not really a fan am biased as im a linux man through and through but i only use it to play games but XP,ME and 98 is probably more stable than vista

Was looking at it the other day.. can't fresh install though, and XP - Windows 7 route is formatted.. Which isn't possible for me, 500gb hard drive, and no way of backing it up really.

Not true.
You can go from XP or Vista using an "upgrade" version of Windows 7. The only difference is that if you're going from XP to 7 you NEED to do a fresh install. Going from Vista to 7 gives you the option to keep all of your settings/files etc and as mentioned before will stick them in windows.old.
The second method of keeping settings/files is pretty pointless though as you won't get a fresh install which kind of defeats the object of installing a brand new OS. You don't want remnants of vista sticking around on your PC.
Just back up all the data you need to an external drive and do a fresh install.

I'm not 100% sure if you currently need XP installed when you enter the windows 7 disk, I am assuming you do. If you install from an image or a physical disk you should get the option to install onto your XP partition and format it before installing as per re-installing XP or installing vista.
I wouldn't delete it prior to installing 7 just in case. I wish my windows 7 exam book would hurry up, could give you a definite answer then :P

This is the point I was making.
Going from XP - Windows 7 you have to format your harddrive (mi mi mi partiton). Not possible for me, so I have to delete my stuff if I wanted to do a straight upgrade.
However, Going from XP - Vista, then Vista - Windows 7 holds within your files without formatting.

how much ram do you have and what type of processor?
x64 is 64 bit,
and x86 is 32 bit.
x64 will allow you to use more ram, 4 upwardsi believe, how ever you may have problems finding drivers for some hardware.
x86 will allow you to make use of arouind 3.5 gigs of ram, maybe 4 sometimes im not sure. This is the safe option though as all drivers pretty much have a 32 bit option.
